ram module not detected on hp ipxsb-dm

I have this old pc from a fiend, who want to use it for document works, and I got him a 2gb ddr3 module for him to have 4 gb of ddr3, and I tried both ram sticks in both slots and they work, but when both are in, it only detects 2gb. I've cleared cmos, and searched for drivers but found nothing. If someone could help me out, it would be very usefull. Thank you!!
