light sensor on monitor

Chev Chelios

I went to a friend of mine and he had an old monitor which had an incredible feature. its the eizo flexscan l550 and had a light sensor which could reduce or increase the brightness depending on the light around like the smartphones. i was amazed! why dont they use it on modern monitors too? it worked really great.
