Windows Drive letters

RuiFPB

I have a USB drive that I want to be allways mounted to a specific drive letter (Z:).

It works on my main computer but not on other computers i plug it into, is it possible to allways mount it on Z on any computer?

No.

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.

That would IMO not be a good idea, the owner of the other PCs might not want that for instance. So it's done individually on the PCs, once you have done so though it should remember the assigned drive letter, as long as no other device between times it's connected have taken over that drive letter IIRC. So assigning a device letter as you said for Z: for example would be unlikely another device has been automatically assigned that.

Is an specific need to mount it as a "Z" drive in the other computers?

Like the guys said before, its not the drive that dictates its letter, its the OS on the machine the drive is going to be connected that dictates the letter is going to be mounted to.

Since the drive letters of removable drives can change, some programs that use them will allow you to refer to the drive by its drive name instead of the drive letter. FreeFileSync is one program that has that has that option (which I use).

Something that works sometimes is to go into Disk Management and assign the drive letter to the device there. As long as all the computers you use the device on don't already use that letter for anything else, a drive letter set that way should "stick" (most of the time; there are no guarantees).
