ryzen 5 3600 with b450 chipset, is this ok?

is it ok to put ryzen 5 3600 on b450 mobo?

i am talking about a CHEAP b450 mobo such as msi b450m pro vdh, gigabyte b450m s2h, Asrock b450m hdv, etc

Whilst probably nothing would happen, I don’t think it’s a useful upgrade. Motherboard will struggle handling the cpu.

put it in, yes. Running stock, yes. Overclocking, no. Getting the most out from factory turbo boost, nope.

The 3600 will be fine even on 4phase boards, you can oc all you want. 

 

8 cores will be fine also, oc will depende on the board oc with 4phase and no cooler on the vrm is a no go.

 

Keep in mind that crappy b350 and 450 will always get a bit hot, just keep a good airflow or put a small fan on the vrm.

 

Ive done that in the past for my fx 8150 5ghz.

What do you base this on? Especially the cheap B boards will struggle keeping things in thermal check. 

 

As @Jurrunio and I mentioned, it will work, but at stock/under stock speeds

3600x is 65w same as 1600 and same as 2600. 

 

There is no issue with a 6 cores on a 4 phase vrm, power or temps wise.

Except we dont know how turbo boost violates it or not, or when does it change its tactics.

define components in a 4-phase, whether it has heatsinks, how much surface area do the heatsinks have, before claiming that. I've seen R5 1600 throttle on Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 for example, that's is a 4 phase with heatsink.

isn't turbo boost considered stock speed?

i am not planning on overclocking

what part is getting hot? just vrm? chipset? 

what about opening the side panel and put desk fan near it?

just my two cents, but: a more decent board (asrock b450m pro4; b450m fatal1ty gaming k4; MSI B450M Bazooka V2 or B450m gaming plus) does not cost much more, than cheapo boards, and they even allow mild overclocks.

 

I would not cut 10-15 EUR price difference here..

No, in the sense that the board can decide whether how much further it will push the CPU beyond base clock. For example, the 2700X advertise 4.35GHz max turbo, but in reality boards like the Crosshair VII Hero do about 4.15-4.2GHz all core at about 150-180w package power. Cheaper boards like the X470 Gaming Plus might do 4GHz all core at about 120w package power instead.

If it fits budget get a B450 tomahawk. Good price/performance

Performance means suitability for overclocking/XFR. Better power delivery with less heat generation and better VRM heatsinks. 

 

There’s potentially also some other feature differences between boards like back panel IO, audio quality, debug LEDs, flash BIOS, etc. You may or may not care about that stuff.

oh and AMD CBS will actually work upto higher frequencies on a better board.. A garbo board sometimes cannot even handle stock turbo boosts (ie. asus prime b450m-k..)
