3900X and RAM speed / Timings

I plan to buy the 3900X

I just bought (last week) 4000Mhz CL18 B-die RAM. 
I am wondering if I should return this and buy (for $20 less) 3600Mhz CL16 B-die RAM. 



Thoughts?

Why not just fine tune it yourself to 3600mhz/CL14?

 

Also Samsung B-Die has been phased out, it's not that simple keep finding it to buy brand new anymore.

Will I be able to do that OK? (never underclocked RAM)

It's easy to find B-Die here in the UK - OCUK bin for it.

With a kit rated that high on XMP you can pretty much set it to whatever you want by manually tuning it, including that 3733mhz clock at a lower timing of CL16 likely, the higher the rating of the chip means the better it is at overclocking, and overclocking is anything past CPU stock value which I think is 2933mhz on Zen 2 still.

Cool, I'll just hold on to it then, bring it down to 3733Mhz and tighten the timings then.

Naa, just keep it, clock it down and play a bit with the settings.

Its better to have better RAM and not utilize it fully than have slow ram and need the frequency...

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

RAM speed will improve the performance of the CPU.  If he goes as high as 4000MHz there will be a regression, but if he stays at 3733MHz or maybe gets a CPU that can run 3800MHz at 1:1 he'll get that last bit of performance.  And if he can get the CAS latency down that'll just keep on stacking performance on performance.  

 

And while I understand it's never something you'd notice without metrics -- it's nice to know you have a tuned system running at peak performance.

Not per say, but the RAM was on offer so with Ryzen 3000 on the horizon (and talks of faster RAM being better) I just grabbed it.

Not to hijack this topic but I feel like I'm in a very similar situation.

 

In light of Zen 2 I am preparing a system upgrade and managed to pick up some G.Skill 4000CL19 at a very reasonable price and was wondering if it's worth sticking with these and downclocking much like the OP?
