Windows 7 performance on a 5400rpm hdd

ahuckphin

Can someone please remind how was the performance of Windows 7 installed on a 5400rpm hdd. Cause I know that Windows 8.1 works well enough and WIndows 10 dosen't. But what about Windows 7 especially after years of update. Thanks.

Acceptable. Windows 10 was made in an era where SSDs and fast HDDs were widely available, while Windows 7 was made in an era where SSDs cost thousands for like, 120GB.

They run the same, the only limiting factor on Windows 10 are the automatic updates which will kill every hard disk even on 7

It'll be fine. Hell, you can wake Windows 7 up by going from a 5400RPM drive to a 7200RPM. It's really not that picky.

5400rpm hard drive is going to be slow for any operating system. Especially if you have used an SSD and gotten used to loading times and overall snappiness. I’ve gotten to the point where I notice performance between a sata ssd and nvme. For me going back to a 5400rpm drive would be hard.

I agree, SSD's are cheap now. I just picked up a ADATA 120GB for $17.00 USD from amazon with free shipping. Give that a try.
