Black Screen on VNC server

I've enable auto login on Windows as well as vnc as a service on startup but after I power on my PC and connect to it I get a black screen. What's going on?

No worries. Are you using realVNC with Windows on both computers?

yes. Also tried to connect to it via android and same black screen. I'm using the PC as a server so it doesn't have a monitor plugged in

Do you have a valid license or are you on the trial period for realvnc?

Are you able to connect a screen to the server/pc and ensure it isn't showing up just black as well?

I've just logged into my vnc account.

I've also tested it by plugging a monitor to it before and it works normally. The problem is when I restart it without a display

What are the power settings of your pc set to?

You may want to double check the BIOS settings of that PC with vnc server installed on as well to make sure it isn't cutting anything out if a display isn't detected or any type of 'standby' modes.

it seems to be a common error with vnc on windows 10. Solved it by changing the CaptureMethod value to 1 under advanced options. Thanks for your help

Old topic, but another thing to try is clearing out Device Manager of hidden/disabled items.

From an admin command prompt, run: Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1&START "" Devmgmt.msc
Click the VIEW tab, select show hidden devices.

Delete any devices that are greyed out or have a splat/bang/error. (Do not click "Delete the driver software, unless you're sure you don't need it").

Click ACTION, select SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES.

All flavors of VNC and similar programs freak out if there are driver issues and this should resolve issues related to that. VNC is especially picky about video drivers.
