LTT Summer Folding Sprint to 10th

Sadly I'm losing access to the GPU server as I suspected would happen. It'll either go offline in two days or after the weekend (NZ times here) which will probably half my current PPD. Oh well back to pure CPU folding again.

I know you guys were having issues with WU 11733 but my cards loved it.  Now I've lost 500K PPD running 14176 and 300K PPD on 14167.  This does not bode well for my top ten spot.

 

 

 

Edit: I have also dropped 10c on my cards so it doesn't seem these WU's are pushing them nearly as hard.

My primary system really isn't happy, think one of my older HDDs is on its last legs.

I kinda missed this event, so I can't officially participate. But I just happened to have some nice hardware for benchmarking, so I figured I'll put some WUs in for the LTT team. I might just make it to top 10

welp, we sure need all help we can get, my PPD has hit an all time low with my Titan only doing 700K. that's 50% of what it should be doing.

My 1080ti is doing about that, 2075 core clock 5100 mem...

I don't really understand why some projects give so much less. Aren't the points just a thing to gamify this anyways. In that case they should be linear with the amount of work put in.

They are, all WUs are tested on a standard system and depending on how long it takes they are awarded points. But, different architectures are good at different things. Not all accelerators are created equal.

The rules of engagement for Beta state: 

“3) Beta Projects and FahCores are LESS STABLE than Public (normal, advmethods/advanced, and bigadv) Projects and FahCores so you will face unexpected errors or lose WUs. As such, there is a high probability that your PPD will be LOWER when compared to running Public Projects and FahCores. There is no bonus for being a Beta Tester.”

 

There are a lot of different projects in Beta now. For a while it was just 11733 which using OpenMM_22 did provide good yields as the core was tweaked to give more consistent results.

 

Perhaps removing the Beta flag would give more consistent yields

I don't get why my client accepts them then. If my GPUs are bad for a project, assign that to a GPU that's good at it. In the end they're trying to get real work done, might as well do that as efficiently as possible.

What WUs are you seeing poor yields on then?  The 14163 is listed as Beta

removing the beta flag dropped PPD by almost 700K. i'll keep it on i guess

These worse WU’s seems to really be having an adverse effect on our teamwide PPD; just look at the hourly reports over the last 24hr:

Looks like the server that gives out the core 22 wu's has been down since last night, which has destroyed my ppd. On the plus side the heat output is much less, but I'd rather have the points.

I noticed that too - thanks for sending the notification in on the Folding Form.

 

It appears that some of the OpenMM_22 WUs have been released into the wild (i.e. promoted from beta to advanced) but with the server assigning them down we can all expect a reduction in points.
