LTT Summer Folding Sprint to 10th

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Everyone if you are wanting to talk about all things folding I'd suggest you go over to the folding community board found in the link below.

@leadeater with the event now being over can you lock this thread?

You won't be doing that here. I've just been hit by a bit of a cold snap with some good winds to go with it that cut right to the bone. You'd be able to refrigerate those eggs though.

Wish it was still Winter, well if you can even call Florida having Winters.

Interesting, under Linux that 96 core server is estimating around 930,000 PPD. So 1 CPU core is like 1/96th of a good GPU.

Just that?  What core is the server working?

I just doing a test run on my 1950X @ 3.5GHz w/3200MHz CL13 RAM using only 16 cores and getting an estimated 153-155K from an 0xa7 core project 14153.  This of course with Minecraft, Discord, and a web browser up.

On other hand, I need more RAM.  ....When I do LHC ATLAS and NFS, both of those love to eat the crap out of it.

Right now I got BOINC suspended while the CPU does this test run with F@H.

Server CPUs, much lower clocks (2.7GHz). Estimated PPD can be as high as 1.2mil but I'm going with a lower likely more realistic one. Same project, 14153.

Edit:

Also just did some quick math and you're getting the same. 155,000 / 16 = 9687.5. 9687.5 * 96 = 930,000.

Ah, ok.

The PPD was lower with older WUs for CPUs.  I wish bigadv come back especially with high core count CPUs being easier for folks to buy.

My current plan is to basically CPU only fold for the event like I did last year, if I'm lucky I can use that GPU server but I'm not counting on it. Managed to get 19mil points last year during the event.

Will add in my 2 GPUs at home for as long as I'm comfortable to, it's been like a month or more since I put the deposit down on the solar install and was hoping it would be done by now, would have helped a lot.

What did you go with for a solution?  I'm going to be self installing some EnPhase micro inverters here.  Was hoping to wait for IQ8 and their ability to keep running when the grid goes down, but will have to settle for IQ7+'s as the 8 won't be available for a while.  So I'm going with a small 10 panel 3.5ish kWh array on the garage first, mostly west facing for the evenings when we use the most power, and probably adding an IQ8 based larger 16 panel array in a better spot that will also be south facing next year.

Enphase micro inverters. From the research I did it's pretty much the only way it should be done now, string tied with DC optimizers is not that bad but you shouldn't pick that over micro. Same size system you are looking at.

Can't get IQ8 but I will be doing what is called an AC couple system with a hybrid inverter, at a later time, where the solar micro inverters will be after the output of the hybrid inverter that also does the grid isolation. That means when the grid is off the micro inveters will still get a reference AC to phase align to and they will function. There's an Enphse reference architecture document you can look at to see it better.

Also if you do use the IQ8's you must design your system so that it will not back feed to the grid if the grid is down, you'll kill someone and that's also regulation.

Nice.  I will probably let my 1950X do some folding as I want to see how it does.  I will probably do some test from using 8, 12, to 16 cores settings.

Also, sweet about that solar install.  Wish I could get some solar panels here, but I still rent a place.  Keep thinking of building some brackets just have a few panels to charge my phone, tablets, and smaller devices.  Late Spring here is being a toasty one.  My electric bill usually don't hit near 200 bucks this early in the year (some from the Pent, but most is from the A/C having to run all the time from this really hot Spring - and I let my inside temps stay around 80-82F to try to keep that bill down).

Installing it is easy and I had no problems.  Still trying to figure out how I'm supposed to get my shirts in there though. Do you think it'll do fitted sheets?

I wasn't folding until couple days ago. Added two systems few days ago then added another group last night. PPD I'm 2nd or 3rd atm.

Hmmmm, rain finally showed up and suppose to go on and off the rest of this month.  It manage to drop outside temps below 90F (thank goodness - give my A/C a break).

Depending if the temps can stay low around 90F when this event starts.  I may fire up more of my GPUs.

-12C and a couple of feet of snow here then. I’ll never forget walking into a Bar in Jacksonville, FL one March many years ago and the bartender took one look at me and said “Ah, a Canadian, Molson?” I was mystified until he pointed out that all the locals were wearing pants and sweaters and there I was in shorts and a Tee.

Got to consider my temps inside the townhouse.

My overall temps inside are set at 82F/27.8C.  My room with my rigs tends to be higher than that.

And yes, temps like not don't really bother me.  I tend to not say it is hot till temperatures hit above 90F/32.2C.  Even then, I still go outside in pants in 100F/37.7C.  I seem to have a high tolerance to heat.  Offset, I dislike temps below 50F/10C.

The FTWs tend to be picky at least with Pascals.  Now, my GTX960 FTW is a goldy, I can run it at 1551MHz on stock volts under Mint Mate.

:I  Still bum that custom BIOS modding has yet to be fully cracked for Pascal.  My former 980Ti reference cards where beastly OCers with custom BIOS under water.
