Ad Buster Buster - Chrome to limit ad blocking to Enterprise users only

Unfortunately, no.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but DRM is always there to ruin your day.

I don't see MS as being particularly anti ad or pro user freedom.

I don't disagree - but them forking Chromium won't have anything to do with Google's changes. They might well keep those changes. They'll fork for other reasons relating to adding Microsoft specific code.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

does any of the revenue from that ad go to Mozilla?

HELL no

i would much more expect MS to bake ads directly into Edge to replace ad-blocked ones than just outright stop supporting adblockers

Maybe a combination of both...? Who's to say where the ads are coming from once you can't block them anymore

Exactly, I don't think they'll take a stand against Google on this one.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Good thing I switched to Firefox in time. I knew there was a power play coming - that's what we get when everyone uses the same product from a megacorp. Firefox has its issues though, not least of which the browser itself is huge and resource hungry - I hope a new competitor rises soon, or at least someone repackages the Firefox engine into a more wieldy solution.

I've been using Firefox on my phone for a while, I'd say it's fast enough - if you haven't tried it recently I recommend taking another look.

I tried it a couple months ago actually. Scrolling still isn't nearly as smooth. If frame drops occur frequently, it's not fast enough.

Fast enough for...what? Browsing? Well, each to their own, I guess..

I've been using Firefox on the desktop for over a decade and on the mobile since it was released and while I do admit that it's not as smooth at scrolling as e.g. Edge on the desktop, I still haven't even considered any other browser. For me, the smoothness of scrolling up or down isn't the deciding factor; none of the other major browsers can match Firefox's extensions and the freedom to do with it as I like.

Smooth scrolling helps readability while in motion. I'm not exactly the most patient of people when it comes to reading, and lacking screen real estate has always been a pain point, even on my current 5" phone, so I tend to read content as I scroll through. Keeping a consistent and fast a frame rate as possible makes things a lot easier on the eyes as I follow the text.

My next phone (probably some years away as I'm careful with my stuff), a display upward of 120 hz is kind of on my wishlist, actually, primarily for this reason.

So... just download the enterprise version of Chrome. Isn't it that easy?

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

2020: Google loses its #1 spot as browser leader

RIP

Time to switch browsers, its not like we cant find a version of enterprise chrome or so, or hacks to disable this.

Until ads become less intrusive,no popups and redirections and no retarded porn ads and disgusting disease ads, i will use adblockers and jump browsers, not to mention safety issues because of malware fake ads.

Use vivaldi, opera, brave, or firefox ofcourse. I think chrome received too much unearned love and marketshare just because its google, and has its services integrated, somewhat.

Vivaldi and Opera are bloated, Brave is buggy, Firefox is slow..... etc etc. There's always some compromise unfortunately

Panics.

Remembers he uses Chromium on laptop.

Ah, I really should install Chromium on my PC too. Was only using it to sync bookmarks / pass from phone to PC. I could use lastpass instead.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft advertises the fact that they support all the adblockers when new Edge gets launched as a main selling feature, because that might get a lot of people to switch over, especially since there's already a dedicated category in the Addon store for Adblockers

It's basically identical to Chrome in terms of usability, basically all the disadvantages of old edge are gone, I have no problem switching over, and I suspect the average user wouldn't be able to notice the difference between Edge and Chrome (but probably switch to Chrome anyway)

they forgot one key detail. chromium is open-source. if consumers want a browser with chromium's rendering engine but no restrictions on ad blockers it will be developed.

so long as it can sync to my google account to backup my bookmarks i will switch to it.

Non-chrome users are laughing rn

Not sure why anyone still trusts Google at this point. They make their money by taking your data and selling ads. If you're opposed to either of those things then you should really be making an attempt to avoid google products.

I'll take Apple maps over Google maps any day of the week, because I'd rather spend 5 minutes figuring out where the fuck I am then give my location to Google.

I want to know who are the idiots using stupid Chrome? Interface is dumb, it has ZERO features and it's a fat pig that's not even fast. Especially when you cram bunch of extensions on it to even be half usable. And now that ads and all the tracking garbage won't be blockable, who will stick with it? II never understood how Chrome has risen to the user share it has other than hardcore shilling and bundling and the name "Google" coz people think if it's made by Google it has to be the best shit ever. Hint, it isn't.

Firefox is great and so are some Chromium forks like Brave and Opera, hell, even avast! Secure Browser looks somewhat interesting. But Chrome, literally no reason to use it. None.
