1080p 240hz monitor

Manuel-KLG

Hello everyone!

I'm looking for a 1080p monitor for my new gaming pc build coming in summer. I was looking at the Dell Alienware AW2518F. Its a 25'' monitor, 1080p and 240hz. I was wondering if its worth it considering it costs around 350 euros here. Also is there actually a difference between 144hz and 240hz? I have never tried playing at 144hz but 240hz was an amazing feeling for me. I will also be pairing the monitor with a 1660ti or even an rtx 2060.

Can these two cards run smoothly at 1440p? If yes then I could also but the samsung cjg50, a 27'' curved monitor, 1440p and 144hz

Thank you !

Not really, at this point frametime is so tiny already you really don't see much difference at all, 144hz is the sweet spot.

You could spend around 30ish more euros to get the G-SYNC model (unless it's not available there)

I'm gonna go find my own tech support...

with BLACKJACK and HOOKERS!

with those cards you won't get 240 fps in most games except for titles like counterstrike

Unfortunately its not available in my country. I've read that the model I have listed supports g-sync too.

Really if you're not invested in competitive fps you're better off to get 144Hz 1440p monitor. Any higher than 60Hz is so much better so jump to 144Hz will be felt more than 144Hz to 240Hz though. Also to take advantage of it you'd need a bette system to keep fps high and consistent anyway.

Higher refresh feels way better than 144.

But I don’t have any cards strong enough for 240-1080p it 144-1440p.

Feels better and thats enough for me and I’d rather have more frames over a higher res. Really depends on the games you play and what you really expect the hardware to do for you.

That's highly subjective. I can just barely tell the difference between 60hz and 144hz, and then only if they're side by side. The difference between 1080p and 1440p on an average size monitor is night and day though.

Anecdotal evidence would suggest that my experience is less common, but it's still important to point out that the OP needs to try it himself.

Yea I can see you saying that if you can’t tell the difference between 60 and 144. Find that to be unbelievable really. You must not play FPS games online if so.

Any good FPS player will also tell you the difficulty relearning a system on 1440 compared to being on 1080 for a decade.

Which is is why I said it depends on the games, so yea being subjective would be implied.

I absolutely play online FPS games. Not everyone is the same as you.

As it would seem. Plenty of videos of the hz difference being notice while in windows. Night and day in every regard.

Do you really need to be able to hit 240fps to see the 240hz difference? I looked it up and some say you do, some say you don't. Yeah overall the 1440p monitor is a much better deal since you can also lower the resolution in FPS games.

As for the games I'm going to play: Apex Legends, Battlefield, Far Cry and more AAA titles. However, I don't want to stress my rtx 2060 or gtx 1660ti (depends on which one I buy). 2060 is great for 1080p but okay at 1440p. Thanks for your replies guys

The card is gonna be stressed either way. And getting a 27” 1440p monitor to drop it to 1080 isn’t always good. Some games where decent but overall didn’t like it.

Only reason I got 240 is because there weren’t any 144hz to buy. And my frame rate it always higher than that anyway. Would rather have it and not need it.

Alright I see what you mean.  I'm probably going to buy the 1080p 240hz since I don't have the money to afford a decent 1440p card.

Thanks for your replies :)

Just depends on what you can play with. I used my old Kepler card on my 1440 monitor. High preset on bf1. Still averaged 60 FPS. Which was playable even with my high standards.
