OCZ ZS Series 650W - Still useable?

Exaco

Hello, i got the ZS 650W currently which was used for 4years~,  i plan to get Ryzen build soon ( R5 1600 or 2600 depending on prices and later upgrade to R5 3600 paired with my current 980Ti while also restoring my current pc w/ old parts so it gets more value for sell or just gonna keep it as backup/secondary PC ).

Ofcourse i would upgrade the PSU in future, but what do you think is it a good idea to use the OCZ ZS PSU in new build for like 2-3months ? I mean im afraid it can fail and destroy all the components.

@Exaco

that GPU will ‘bottleneck’ a 3600x.

also, from a view things I have read some mobo manufacturers said they wouldn’t even advise using the new zen 2 in even 450/470 boards.

id wait until 570 chipset had been also released and get yourself a decent combo.

MSI B450 Pro Gaming Pro Carbon AC | AMD Ryzen 2700x  | NZXT  Kraken X52  MSI GeForce RTX2070 Armour | Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4*8) 3200MhZ | Samsung 970 evo M.2nvme 500GB Boot  / Samsung 860 evo 500GB SSD | Corsair RM550X (2018) | Fractal Design Meshify C white | Logitech G pro WirelessGigabyte Aurus AD27QD

Well, i've read that B450 should be fine, only some B350's will not work. Anyway it's nearly the cheapest component so i will be able to upgrade if needed :)

About the GPU it's fine for me, i mostly do 3D rendering and it handles all the games i play fine ( its OC'ed so its basically like stock 1080 ), only current CPU bottlenecks everything. But yeah looking forward for the RTX as the RT Cores gives huge ( 100-200% ) speed improvement in rendering.

Not group regulated; independently regulated with two magnetic amplifiers.

I'd keep it. If it turns out to have problems with modern top end graphics cards and it shuts down, then replace it.

This has no relation whatsoever to OP's unit - your PSU is different than what he has.

It’s old and the same brand. That’s enough relation. As the people commenting don’t have the unit either.

A 2009 Holden Cruze and 2009 Holden Commodore, are both cars from the same brand, and are the same age, though are very different cars. One's a Korean made pos, the other is a fairly well built Australian car.

Model matters. Same applies with PSUs.

The AX1200i and the CX600 V2 are both from Corsair, and both are about 7-8 years old. Doesn't mean they're even remotely similar.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I know in 2007-2010 OCZ bottom and mid tier was an amazing computer destroyer.

And thus theres still a relation. Which you said it did not. Doesn't matter what it is, still works, still will work.
