AMD RX 5700 Navi New arch

It kind of has me worried that they used Strange Brigade for their benchmarks for it to be honest. It's a new architecture, but I don't see it as unlikely that it'd take some level of design queues from what they already have? Also notable is that they did 5700 vs 2070 instead of 5800 vs 2080, because in their CES keynote they were showing the Radeon VII having closer to 20% better performance than the 2080 whereas the 5700 only has 10% better performance than the 2070. So maybe the 5800 performs worse than the Radeon VII? Or maybe the Radeon VII's running on Vega made it more capable in that game than the 5800 in spite of its likely being based off of it (And GCN), and the 5800 outperforms it in other titles? But does that mean that in other Vulkan titles AMD's old hardware will beat their new hardware? It'll be good to have the benchmarks in so we can get some decent clarification on this stuff, because it all seems rather odd. I have higher hopes for the CPU than GPU side of things either way.

They have never shown any performance numbers, where the radeon 7 would be 20%+ faster than the rtx 2080. What they did, is basically thrn being on paar.

? its still x70?

With the 7970 the 70 denominates the performance inside this performance/chip thing, not the chip itself.

I edited my post to make it more clear.

I meant the second number for AMD/ATi Cards. And with that the last x7xx High End Card was the Radeon 9700.

There was no Card with the "Performance Nominator" 7 high end after that. It was either 8 or more often even 9.

Is a 1070 an AMD/ATi Card??

Nope, they said it is about 25% faster than a Vega64 not the rtx 2080. They specifically said it's in Paar with a rtx 2080.

Not to nitpick, but that's a 19% increase, not 25%.  I think it would be fair to say that, no matter the numbers, AMD has shown the Radeon VII to be faster than both the rtx2080 and vega64 in specific tasks, likely cherry picking what to use.

I said 20% originally. I was referring to AMD's last gen being 20% faster than the competition in Vulkan titles and their new stuff being 10% faster than the competition in Vulkan titles.

I see a 0% increase in non Amd games and a 19% increase in an Amd optimized game... Som joke's on you.

That was what I was originally saying. I said that AMD's old stuff saw a 20% increase in a Vulkan title, and the new stuff is only seeing a 10% increase, implying that the new architecture can't take advantage of the performance increases that go along with it to the extent that the old one could, and the testing in Strange Brigade also implying that it can't beat the competition outside of Vulkan. Work on that comprehension a little, would you?

Nice!

That's what we want to see. From launch day itself a variety of models with 3 fans, heatpipes, backplates etc which will run cool and quiet.. No more giving us crappy blowers and asking us to wait.

kinda sneaky of asrock to bypass the embargo by showing concepts.

Doesn't really tell us anything though so I don't think it's covered under embargo.

Interesting, so far just that SKU revealed, I know they're targeting mainstream, we'll see more about it soon enough. Though I really wonder when they're planning to release the full fat Navi chip.

has any one yet considered t hat the RX5700 may not mean just a single card called a 5700... But that there could be different levels of 57xx... from a 5710 to a 5790.

Wouldn't be the first time... I remember the last time they did that... in fact I had a pair of xfire 5770 cards around 2009.that were easily comparable to the top end hardware of the time... for a lot less money.

System 1: Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro, Ryzen 5 2600X, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz, Sapphire 5700XT, 250GB NVME WD Black, 2x Crucial MX5001TB, 2x Seagate 3TB, H115i AIO, Sharkoon BW9000 case with corsair ML fans, EVGA G2 Gold 650W Modular PSU, liteon bluray/dvd/rw.. NO RGB aside from MB and AIO pump. Triple 27" Monitor setup (1x 144hz, 2x 75hz, all freesync/freesync 2)

System 2: Asus M5 MB, AMD FX8350, 16GB DDR3, Sapphire RX580, 30TB of storage, 250GB SSD, Silverstone HTPC chassis, Corsair 550W Modular PSU, Noctua cooler, liteon bluray/dvd/rw, 4K HDR display (Samsung TV)

System 3 & 4: nVidia shield TV (2017 & 2019) Pro with extra 128GB samsung flash drives.

Those honestly look like any other of their high end models. If they said they were Nvidia 2070s I'd believe them. The reference is what I'm waiting for, I like the minimalist style to them unlike these which look like Fortnite skins on my GPU

If it's a reference design which keeps the card running cool like the Radeon 7 then people would be fine with it. If not there should be aftermarket models available at launch.

I too do not like overly flashy RGB stuff, but cannot stand hot and loud blower coolers. I was not particularly fond of these examples but took it as a positive sign if it means there are going to be aftermarket models available in general.

Prob not going to be a 450$ 2080 competitor.

most likely a 2070 competitor for 450$.

Radeon 7 is still quite new

Yeah, but they're going to have to cut margins pretty deep to start getting market share back, I'm also assuming that the smaller die and no hbm2 will make this much cheaper to produce in general. I just want off of this 1070 ti, the gimped memory performance hurts this card so much that 1440p wouldn't be great on it.

AMD margins are 5%, compared to intel 30%, the 1070 ti has fine memory, 8GB of 8008mhz DDR5

The 5% margin from and makes me think that they could produce a 2070 tier card around the $400 mark.

The 1070 ti should perform very closely to the 1080 by virtue of the core, but the large memory deficit causes the 1070 ti to be around 10% worse at stock and even worse when they're both overclocked. Pascal on the high end is very memory bandwidth hungry.

yeah, but it is more than 10% cheaper (1080s were 480$ IIRC, 1070 Ti was ~420$)

You can always OC the mem, I got a +620mhz before FPS got worse (10.5ghz mem) on my 1070 SC2.
