Steam In-Home Streaming beta - How to set up & What is it?

- What is Steam In-Home Streaming?

Steam in-home streaming will allow you to play a game on one computer when the game process is actually running on another computer elsewhere in your home. Through Steam, game audio and video is captured on the remote computer and sent to the player's computer. The game input (keyboard, mouse or gamepad) is sent from the player's computer to the game process on the remote computer.

Any two computers in a home can be used to stream a gameplay session and this can enable playing games on systems that would not traditionally be able to run those games. For example, a Windows only game could be streamed from a Windows PC to a Steam Machine running Linux in the living room. A graphically intensive game could be streamed from a beefy gaming rig in the office to your low powered laptop that you are using in bed. You could even start a game on one computer and move to a more comfortable location and continue playing it there.

I assume. Some of the comments on the Steam group said they were achieving 60FPS in what they normally had 250FPS in. It might be V-Sync or forced, but that's what I saw posted.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

What is the cheapest PC that'd be able to do this? I may buy an HTPC with wifi capabilities and hook it up to my TV in the front room.

I already have an awesome router so it should be fine through wifi, I believe it supports like 1300mpbs wifi or something, might be higher I can't remember

you need to join the steam group

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/homestream

then you need to wait for an email invite.

afterwards just enable it and sign into the same account on two computers at the same time.no you do not need two accounts.

Does it have to be from a Windows -> Steam Machine? Could you just do Windows -> Windows?

Hello Lays,

You only need one steam account. ;)

Even if SteamOS is Linux you will still be able to use this function - was just testing with my Windows PC to my (old unused 1gen) Macbook ;D

If you check the thread in that Steam group named 'Beta Invitation Information' it will tell you more information about how to join the beta program :)  http://steamcommunity.com/groups/homestream/discussions/0/540731690956055439/
