Hi all,

I'm potentially looking to replace my T480 because I need much better graphics performance and I'm not looking for an Nvidia gaming laptop.

Looking for an all AMD gaming laptop (E.g. AMD APU + AMD GPU).

The performance level I'm looking for is RX 480/580 ish performance for around £1000 or less.

Budget isn't very flexible but I can may in some cases by able to stretch it a tiny bit.

Buying new is an option as well as buying used provided the used laptop is a good bit cheaper.

Buying on Amazon or eBay is preferable although I can buy from other places.

@GeneXiS_X Not sure if you're familiar with AMD gaming laptops.

Thanks in advance.

There are no laptops out there that have rx 580 performance for 1000 pounds on the nvidia side

But then again there are no rx 580 laptops either

Let's agree to disagree

I think you should wait cause 2nd gen ryzen mobile CPU is hitting the market soon. Pair it with a 1060 or 1660Ti or amd side Radeon 570 or 580. It will be a pretty powerful beast. Try to go for the r7 processors

I mean I'm also fine with Intel + AMD combinations if nothing else is suitable for me.

The 2nd gen ryzen mobile laptops have already mostly launched.

Think we have to allow some slack for mobile space. 1060 class would have easily done it if it were not for no-nvidia requirement. Let's be realistic here, if you were to put a desktop 580 in a mobile form factor, it'll thermal throttle like crazy.

In a quick look I've not seen any AMD GPUs in laptops beyond a 560X whatever that is.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

I have found an RX 570 Alienware 15 laptop.

My only reservations about it are how expensive the laptop is (basically £1000) combined with the weak CPU which is an Intel core i5-8300H.

It has 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.

What would you be after in a mobile CPU then? At 4c8t it isn't exactly lacking or is it more about the clocks? Base 2.3 turbo 4.0 but how far does it go in between?

It's not so much that as I'd need to disable HT for security reasons relating to Zombieload.

What do you think of the Alienware mentioned above based on the assumption that HT will need to be disabled?

And what do you think of the Asus FX505DY/F705DY with 120Hz Freesync display? I know its not a 570 or a 580 but ehhh.

Also, assuming ethics and morals aren't a detractor what do you think of the 1060 model of that laptop with the 8750H?

Lower end models are still passable (I really don't like Asus FX) but 1660TI ones run hot. 120Hz display has low sRGB.

Intel+Nvidia combo is still a better choice in gaming laptops

If you need i7+1660TI/1060 GPU under 1k, can consider these:

PCSpecialist 15.6 Optimus X

Medion Erazer X6805 (low sRGB only)

MSI GP63 8RE

PCSpecialist Vyper (low sRGB only)

HP Omen 15-DC0013NA

PCSpecialist 15.6 Recoil III GTX

Bumping up budget to 1.1 can get RTX laptop:

CyberpowerPC Tracer RTX-17 Extreme

CyberpowerPC Tracer RTX-15 Slim

Fine with 1650 GPU?
