Can you easily detach the new Seagate Backup Plus to extract a 2.5" HDD?

I have and do use a 3.5" Backup Plus with a different drive, so in answer to your question, yes. However, the Backup Plus drive runs proprietary software, which means if you want to remove the drive from the enclosure, you will not be able to access the data on it!

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves (Abraham Lincoln,1808-1865; 16th US president).

It would not disassemble the pieces of that hard disk, I'd better use it for external storage only. When you check the hardness of those hard drives you realize that it is a little bit lighter than the real internal hard drives, that means they are designed to save data more sporadically and a heavier use could be rather counterproductive.
