Handbrake DVD Ripping Issues

Try using MakeMKV, I've always had good luck with that program.

I am ripping my ASL DVDs for my class this summer so I can watch the lessons when I am on the go. The second dvd ripped fine, but the first dvd (I did it backwards) freezes on Pass 2 of 2 at 96.94% every time on the first chapter. I am using handbrake with VLCs libdvdcss. Is there a cure for such madness or a possibly better software? No, I am not going to sell the videos, so it technically is not worth the FBI arresting me.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

Is there any damage to the disk? Any DRM that you know about that might be preventing the encode to complete?

Less configuration, mainly.

 

Another thing you could do is to rip ISO and use that.

It does like, a straight full quality rip without any additional encoding to reduce the file size. I typically use MakeMKV to rip DVD's and Blu-rays, then use HandBrake to make the file size more manageable.
