First time builder looking for high fps gaming setup

Sparko

So I've never built a computer before, and need to build a high fps rig for fortnite. I was top 200 yesterday in the world cup, and one of my friends recommended upgrading to a new PC seeing as my current one is using a 980gtx and barely gets 90fps. Preferably I would like to at least double that. I have a budget of 2000 usd but can over up to 2200 if needed. I really have no clue what I'm doing here so please send help.

Try lowering your game settings or resolution to increase game FPS.

New Ryzen CPUs in a few weeks, they would likely be a good upgrade. Fortnite is hard on the CPU.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

What's your current GPU? 90fps is quite low for a 980 on low

If you want it now you could do something like this:

I included some rgb, you can cut that out if you're not into it.

If you're fine with waiting until Julyish that is supposedly when ryzen 3 is coming out.

It's a 3rd gen i5 I believe. I'll have to double check when I get home, but almost everything needs an upgrade. It was my friends budget build from a while ago.

So I really like this one, but have one question. Could I swap out the motherboard for an asus rog maximus x hero? Or would that not work with the other parts?

I believe that is an ATX motherboard, you would only need to switch the case to the NZXT H500i then you would be fine.

IMO spending half of your entire $2k budget just on GPU for fortnite, is a bad idea.

This should be the best gaming build money can buy right now (the 9900K does do slightly better in gaming loads, but not enough so to justify the extra cost over the 9700K):

The maximus hero is actually a pretty crappy board for the price, grab a z390 aorus pro or taichi instead.

If you can't wait for zen 2:

I was able to shave a few dollars off my build (9700K/2080 Ti) as a few prices shifted since I posted:

Overpriced motherboard

NZXT X62 is actually cheaper

32GB is way overkill for gaming

That case is so overpriced

The 650W/750W RMx is more than enough

This is like at least $200 more than it should be

We already know that it will be July at the earliest. AMD confirmed this last Wednesday.
