Can i use RX 580 with 450W PSU by underclocking it with afterburner

I have  a 8GB MSI rx 580 Armor OC gpu but i only have a 450w power supply. I was wondering if underclocking it by software like afterburner could prevent  PSU from damaging since AMD recommends 500w power supply for it

Depends on which 450 watt PSU

But you wil never reach the limit when ut comes to power consumption. You probably wont draw more than 250 watts on peak total system draw.

What's your PSU, and your CPU, Motherboard, SSD and/or HDD?

OK, i'm not even gonna build this, but is this a good workstation?

If the power supply is of good quality, you don't need to underclock or do anything to the video card.

The RX 580 uses up to around 225 watts. If the rest of your system (cpu, motherboard, fans) consumes up to around 100 watts, then you only need the power supply to provide at least that much (225w + 100w) on the 12v rail.... look on the power supply's label and multiply 12v with the current value listed. If you get more than 350w you should be fine.

AMD lists 500w as minimum requirement because they have no way of knowing with what components you're gonna combine the video card (how many hard drives, what processor and so on) and because a lot of power supplies with less than 500w advertised power often lie about their capabilities or part of their maximum power is locked to 5v and 3.3v voltages (and 12v that's used by video card and cpu is available in a smaller quantity)

You do not even need to undervolt and underclock in terms of power consumption.

In terms of the armor being able to actually cool itself however... You might want to consider dropping 100 mV at least.
