AIO vs lots of fans+aircooler

High end air coolers with good case air flow will produce slightly (like 3-5c) better temperatures. An AIO is easier since you just slap it in any case that will take it, but the pumps generally last 3-5 years.

Depends entirely on the setup, there's like thousands of cpu coolers out there you can't just blanket statement which is better.

 

AIO's are great in space constrained builds since you aren't mounting the radiator on top of the cpu. AIO's also tend to look far more tidy provided you don't puke cables everywhere.

 

Air cooling is 9/10 times more cost effective for the same performance and significantly more reliable.

Thats not true many AIO pumps are rated for 100,000 hours which is close to 11 and a half years of continuous use

Usually around the same temps cuz they're limited by the transfer rate of heat into water/copper, even for 360mm and something like the NH-D15 or LGM RT

I’ve had 2 corsair h100i’s crap out on me in under a year. So while many may be rated for “100,000” of continuous use, that has not been my experience. i based the 3-5 years off of what hardware unboxed and various other reviewers have said about AIO longevity.

Air coolers almost beat AIOs at any price level and noise level. And air coolers are much much more reliable. I had one shitty corsair AIO failed less than a month ago. My AIO has been working for maybe 4 to 5 years which is probably considered very reliable among AIOs. But it still fails eventually. On the other hand, air cooler almost never fails. I think only custom build water loop can beat high end air coolers.

Depends the cpus heat which one would be better,A 2700x the stock cooler runs 10 degrees hotter then a 240/280 aio does on it.A intel hitting 5ghz is hot and needs a lot of cooling.That a aio could come into play.But for the price of a aio you almost can custom loop the cpu.And a custom loop can out cool any aio on the market.

So I have a story on this. My teenager just had a bday and he wanted a new RGB case with mouse/keyboard also RGB.

 

I let him pick out a case, but the problem was it only supported the 240mm h220x he was using in the front. He also went from a full to mid tower. It all installed but wasn't happy with the fans on the front and also with the tubing length. I had a DH-14 sitting around so I tossed it in.

 

I did try a 30 min stress test on both. The DH-14 was only about 2-3c warmer than the 240mm swiftech setup. Now this could have been because the swiftech was air starved.

 

Anyways the noctua cooler is quieter than the pump on the h220x was (bubbles kept getting sucked in to pump from the front mount orientation)

 

Anyways my point is that an AIO can have a slight temp lead, but the real gains are on the custom loop side.

I can get a good 240mm AIO for 100-150 all day.

 

So unless you mean cheap Chinese knockoff products it isn't possible to build a decent custom loop for that.

CPU block - 100-120

GPU block - 150-180

Rad - 60 -120 (size, quality) 240mm +

Tubing 20 - 30

Fittings 50 - 100

Fans 10-25 PER

 

So if we just want a pump/res, CPU block, cheap res, tubing, and fittings...

Then 350-400 is what you should expect to be paying.

 

Which is why I think custom loops on just a CPU are a waste. Toss on another 250 or so and cool the whole system. I always tell people to expect to spend 600-700 on a custom loop.

Building my second Aliexpress loop (everythings in the mail) of mixed metals and awesome savings.

 

Let me know if you guys want me to saw open my other Aliexpress loop and show you how there is no corrosion and the products are the same lol.  I was planning on doing it 10 more months from now on a video but after 2 months, the way everyone talks, my loop would have melted by now ;) (its been running 24/7 for 2+ months now or so)

 

Loops are not expensive.  Buying Peace of Mind and not doing your own research is expensive.  Id rather research, and use my brain and save 2/3rds the price.

 

My last custom loop on a CPU and GPU with dual rads in push pull cost me $65.  This one is going with triple rads so its in total costing me like $76.  Will be $100 total once I buy "cheap Chinese knockoff SP fans" for 1/3rd the price but same/same performance.
