Why sue YouTube? They were forced into this thanks to the MAFIAA (RIAA/MPAA/etc)

I think that would be the first step to actually moving up. YouTube’s system is causing damages and they’ll likely throw the art groups into the limelight.

Your title is factually wrong.

Edit: Thanks for changing that.

On the actual topic itself:

This is yet another example of how little YouTube cares about their content creators. I think someone like mumbo would really benefit from floatplane so I hope for his sake and for the others like him that luke and the rest of the team are able to launch for outside creators soon.

The group claiming the videos is the party that does the manual review.

If they decide they still want to keep the claims, they can. This is part of the reason why the system is completely broken.

It's horrible that the solution right now is basically to use the copyright deadlock trick out of spite so that assholes can't profit off your work and then rely on patreon for your own paycheck.

Welcome to the world where AI is given rights to copyright strike. It can go through thoousands of videos in minutes, doesn't need to do anything else than go through and press the strike-button. In the other hand appealing those strikes needs to be done manually by a human with arguments why that strike isn't correct. So, 25% of videos have been striked and Mumbo Jumbo has 1,788 videos that would be 447 appeals to write, even with copy-paste that's quite a workload.

why can't youtube do the common, reasonable thing and investigate the claims before acting?

This mentality of striking first and asking questions later is just bs

Reasons why I do VHS openings: because YouTube's copyright system can go fuck itself.

It's been broken ever since it was implemented way back when and it's nice to see it's still a piece of shit in 2019.

Yeah. Most meaningful line in the video to me is just that the claimers can so easily and safely push out thousands of claims on the scale of minutes, while the disputer has to spend days fighting against them with a risk of getting their channel terminated. I'm surprised that the servers can find an efficient way to check for content such as video and music in all of the videos that get uploaded. It's just such a large scale, so it almost makes sense that it would be so strict.

His latest video explains the situation.

Basically thought he rights to use his intro song, that song contains extract's from other songs that he doesn't have permission for.

But as he goes on to explain how far does that rabbit hole go? That extract could use other songs and those other songs.

It's stupid that companies fire off 100's of claims with no repercussions of they have no invalidity

What I don't get is if he has the rights to song A that used parts of song B, how can the video be claimed for song B when song A was used. The rights to Song A should cover the WHOLE song.

Being a streamer or Youtuber is a good thing, but there are too many large companies trying to grab whatever revenue they can since they are largely failing to compete these days.

I do think that the artist of song A using part of Song B needs Songs B permission, but once you have it and Song A is licensed to be used, owner of Song B cant claim the video because it used Song A. That is like double dipping.

Indeed. Song A would have already paid the artist (or rights holder) of Song B, for the use of that "snippet". They would already hold a "mechanical" license (or some other negotiated license).
