MSI P67a-GD55 (B3) -- SATA 3 questions!

Hey everyone, I'm very confused. I'll try to keep this quick, right now I'm running a MSI P67a-GD55 (B3) in my system, have been for years and it is great. However, I'm confused about the SATA ports. According to MSI this board has 6 on board SATA connections arranged in order of 1,2,3,4,5,6. Ports 1 and 2 are supposed to be SATA 3 and the rest of the ports, 3,4,5 and 6 are running SATA 2.

 

Right now I have 3 hard drives installed in my system and an optical drive. 

 

Port 1: Corsair Neutron GTX SSD

Port 2: WD Black 1TB

------------------------------

Port 3: empty

Port 4: Optical drive

Port 5: empty

Port 6: WD Green 3TB

 

I plugged the SSD and the WD black into ports 1 and 2 because I wanted to leverage the speed of the SATA 3 interface, but, to my surprise if I look at CrystalDiskInfo or PCWizard it shows that the WD Green in Port 6 is also running in SATA 3 (600MB/s) mode.

 

Here is are the screenshots of the hard drives and their SATA modes all reporting SATA/600.

 

 

 

How can this be? Does anyone have any ideas?

Its probably reporting that your WD Green is a SATA 3.0 capable drive, not that is or isn't running at SATA 3.0

How can I check to see what it is actually running in as opposed to what it supports?

But anyway, HDD's can't utilize SATA 3.

They hardly utilize SATA 2 even.

Well you just check where your HDD is plugged into?

With the help of the user's manual you can find out.

But also usually SATA 3 ports are coloured in red/blue or simply are coloured different than your other 4 ports.

If you plug in a storage device in SATA 2, it will run in SATA 2. Same for SATA 3, except HDD's can't utilize it in any way, as I mentioned before.

 

Edit: Usually everything is labeled on the MoBo itself as well.
