Pc upgrade.

I have an ASUS M11BB. i wish to upgrade the ram. as of currently i have 6GB-1600Mhz DDR3 ram dual channel. I wanna upgrade to 16 GBs. with 2x8-1866 GB hyper x Fury. Now on ASUS site it clearly states i can only go up to 16GB. with  a combo of 4x4GB i guess. however the motherboard i have is the F2A55-M which according to ASUS official site again can upgrade up to 64GB of ram. Im still aiming for that 16GB tho. The thing is im not sure if my MB supports 8GB dimm's. Which are cheaper to get. Please help.

follow the board's spec, those in the prebuilt's site mostly refers to available configurations from Asus

 

tho why spend more on FM2? I'd probably just add 2GB to it and all that a day since 2GB sticks are cheap.

True but those sticks are getting old and also I wanted to switch to Kingston cuz ASint doesnt sound all that good to me. Also in that case i ll have 3 sticks. Which i guess will make the motherboard switch to Single channel mode? Am i getting something wrong?

Definitely upgrade due to how a name sounds.  I have hated my name Josh and want to move to JRockSmooth :)  

 

Sarcasm  aside, your system is old and not worth the purchase you propose.  Do what @Jurrunio says, and save up for a new platform upgrade later this year.

Upgrading to 16GB of RAM is probably not worth it unless it's dirt cheap (which it probably isn't) or you need to open way more chrome tabs. I would agree with the others. If you are hitting a RAM limit then chuck in another 2GB and save up for a new platform overall. With the new Ryzen 3 chips coming out this year you might be able to convince your relatives to either get you some of the parts you need or some money towards them.

Yeah i was hoping of sparing myself the pain of building a new one as a matter of fact so i just wanted to make this one..viable but yeah it doesnt seem like worthy of my time and budget so i guess i ll just go with the cheap choice. thanks everyone

Do you want to play modern games? If so, building one is more than worth it.

 

If games and serious work (editing, 3D design, etc.) aren't what you after, and I assume they aren't if you're still using that old computer, you can always just get a midrange laptop and save yourself the hassle of building a computer.

Not sure what your plans are for the machine, but that chipset is basically dead and investing in it at all is wasted money.

 

I would start peicing together a budget build. I literally just built a AMD 2600/580 combo build for less than 600 around a month or 2 ago (birthday present for a relative)... think my total was 535ish. I can provide the microcenter receipt I'd needed lol

Memory sticks are durable, they've got the longest warranty of any component in a PC (10 year if not lifetime).

 

ASint is owned by Asustek and some another company, not the one making liquid cooling parts (Asetek) but the one that made your PC (Asus).

 

3 sticks can still run dual channel. I think you have 4+2+2? Just put 4 on one side and 2gb ones on the other.

RAM is RAM, as said before. No matter which brand or how old. They don't get bad just by aging, or when being used. You would need to heavy OC them to cause anything bad. Besides that, there were maybe 3 manufacturers back in the day. Micron, Samsung and Hynix (and maybe more). So regardless of brand, your RAM was made by one of those, probably Micron (which also makes Kingston RAM for example).

 

How did you end up with 3 sticks? I can't imagine prebuild being sold with that kind of odd configuration for dual channel board. It was a thing with triple-channel boards. Could it be that you've added sticks afterwards, so that its 2+2+2? In that case adding another 2gb should do it. The board is probably good for 16gb, or 32gb, depending on how many slots.
