Vega 56 reference blower replacement

porina

Had a Vega 56 in reference blower design since it came out, and I suspect it is losing some stability from heat. While I could tinker with voltages and things, I think I'm overdue looking at replacing the cooling solution on it, but to what? Are there still aftermarket alternatives? I'm struggling to find anything so far... I will consider water, air, and hybrid solutions.

Thanks for suggestion. Looks like that would only cool the core area, not other things?

Seeing if I can find any water blocks that fit it at moment, might have found one but need to check my exact model to be sure.

I honestly wouldn't put much money into it.. Sell it and upgrade for a nice air cooled Vega 64 for about the same price as this is going to cost you..

Here's a dumb expensive solution..

There are cheaper AIOs you can put on it as well, just search Google for Vega 64 Waterblock..

I believe the cooler comes with individual heatsinks you place on memory modules and the mosfets/chokes, much like you'd put thermalpads on them for a water block.

Me and selling things never happen. All that would mean is I'd end up with a Vega 64 in addition to existing 56. And I really don't want another heater.

You think I haven't tried? I'm currently looking at some full cover blocks which I can use with existing kit I already have.

Searching. Was hoping for some more solid suggestions, not go Google it. Appreciate the effort but sell and replace isn't my thing.

I was going to buy that kit when I had my liquid Vega 64.. You might even see a good bump in preformance.. I spent over $500 on my custom loop so that's a pretty good budget alternative, IMO...

I'd really hope water would give a significant boost, as with the current cooler you see the clocks drop like a rock which doesn't help when trying to competitively bench it.

Yea I don't like the reference cooler.. I never even tried my VII  with the air cooler lol.. Water cooled, it's a sick card that gives me the same or similar performance as my 2080 did..

I have a Vega 64 that's a reference styled blower card that sounds like it's turning into a jet engine whenever I play games that push it.

I was thinking of modifying it and taking the shrouding off of the heatsink fins and just zip tying Noctua fans to it (I don't care too much if it's ugly)

Does anyone have any experience with modifying blower cards or any AIO or Fan solutions to keep temps and noise down?

Any ideas or solutions that don't require $300 or more for liquid cooling? Thank you!

Well you still can sort it out ... I think. Not sure how vegas are build but if you can strip out the shroud and just leave the heatsink, you can always attach some case fan to the heatsink, I’ve done it before and worked really well

I'm personally too lazy/busy to make a mod so I think the best solution is to put the case away from me, like on the floor, an extra table, or a sound proof closet.

Hi. I did something simple. I replaced the stock fan with new one from Aliexpress. There are "buzzing" fans and "silent" ones. It's hit or miss situation, so i tried 3 different models. Now I have much more quiet vega 56 blower style card. This model did work for me https://pl.aliexpress.com/item/32831903604.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.40d05c0fEyQB3I. It's a little less tall than the original fan, but it seems to keep stock air flow parameters.

It's running Folding@Home 24/7 and the noise is much more acceptable.

EDIT: I cannot give You guys any guarantee of spectacular success. The trick did work for me and for my gaming and computing preferences. I did not perform any complex tests of this solution yet,  just daily workloads. And of course if You break Your GPU during disassembly process - don't look at me ;)
