Should i buy an rtx 2070 or wait for 2170?

I have saved about half a year for an RTX 2070. I should be able to afford it in august. (600€)

Now, should i buy it or wait for the RTX 2170? I would be willing to wait til march but not much longer.

It's very unlikely a new generation will come out by then.

However if anything, you should wait until AMD's Navi comes out to see if NVIDIA will respond to it with a price adjustment.

I would look at the Nitro+ Vega 64 which is just a little slower than the 2070, for fair bit less money.. The 2070 is the worse priced RTX card on the market and should be called a 2060 ti.. It's a joke. If you buy one Nvidia's just going to laugh at you.

Good, idea. However i am targeting an asus branded card. Who knows if they adjust theirs too

I think the badly priced one is the 2080. Almost a grand for 20% more performance than the 2070.

The 2070 would be ideal for me because i can game at 4k at reasonable fps and detail on it.

Also i want to get a vive, so i need a beefy gpu.

your use will depend if you should consider the 2070 in the first place, but next gen Nvidia is too far away. Not seeing any replacements even next year, judging from past Nvidia product cycles.

If you're buying the 2070 for RT though the cost might not go down much after AMD's Navi, we dont know if Navi can do RT realtime yet.

Don't be held hostage by the Nvidia RTX 2070 (*Cough* 2060ti in disguise *Cough*). Vega is here to save the day with similar performance, far better pricing and a much better cooler design for the price:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MssmP6/sapphire-radeon-rx-vega-64-8gb-nitro-video-card-11275-03-40g

Or you could wait for Navi. Just whatever you do, don't get the 2070. It's the worst card of the RTX lineup. For the 150 extra you pay for a 2070 over the 2060, what you get in return is 10% more performance and 2gb vram. Not exactly impressive. If you want the 8gb vram for higher resolutions but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, that's what Vega 64 exists for.

US prices dont apply I suppose? Here the 2070 is the bad value one. It's not fast enough to run games smoothly with graphics quality and realtime RT turned on like the 2080, while even the cheaper 2060 can already handle 1080p 144fps gaming without realtime RT in most cases (those that can't will need the 2080 anyway). It's crushed between its brothers.

Since you are waiting for August, you might as well wait to see what Navi brings to the table. If should be out, if not a release date announced, by then.

I agree with everyone else that the 2070 isn't the way to go, nor should we expect next gen nvidia to be out any time soon.

How much is the 2070 and 2080 in the us? Here in germany a cheap 2070 costs 540€, 600€ for the strix rgb oc variant. A cheap 2080 costs 850€. A 2060 costs about 400€.

Even if the 2060 is a better value, i need at least the performance of a 2070

1 USD = 0.89€ atm

Also i really want an nvidia because i am very interested in machine learning and cuda/cudnn is by far more often supported

You are in luck because the 2060 does perform pretty much like the 2070 in the first place.

10% on average of gap between the two, it's a no brainier really... You worked hard to save this cash, don't waste it, go with the RTX 2060.

We might have a new release by then but you can never be positive, I'd wait and see what Navi has in store, from what I've heard in the rumor mill and with some leaks is 2070 performance for $350. Also getting a 2060 and sprucing it up with a nice overclock would get you pretty close to 2070 performance for a good price.

Ooh that would be very nice. Although when i hear 2070 like performance for $350, i think of what performance they can offer for $600.

Overclocking doesn't really matter because i would also have overclocked the 2070. The gap would only get bigger because the 2070 overclocks better.

I will definitely keep myself updated on Navi in the following months! If navi would be so much better, than I'd get one of those!

Based on this review, the Asus ROG RTX 2060 Strix by its default boost pumps up 4% more performance than the 2060 FE version, and can pumps another 10% by manual OC, means it adds up roughly 14% more performance from RTX 2060 base performance.

That 14% performance increase brings itself to the RTX 2070 base performance with 2Gb VRAM behind.

Overclocking

We've been able to push another ~10% of extra perf out of the card compared to the reference card. Both traditional overclocking, as well as the OC Scanner, reached roughly that level. The combination of memory, power and voltage settings will bring you a proper overclock. Once you've applied it, you get a few percent more performance. Nice to see is that we have been able to reach roughly 16 Gbps on the memory, and that does help.

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/asus-geforce-rtx-2060-strix-oc-review,32.html

I would get the ASUS RTX 2060 Strix instead and manually OC to get to the point where you need that 2070 performance for cheaper. Otherwise get the Vega and take its high TDP fully to warm your cup of coffee next to it..

Mhh honestly i really want my 8gb vram. I use blender a lot for rendering and i game at 4k. All of this is vram intensive.

Maybe i should betray team green, sacrifice 7% performance and cudnn support and buy an rx64 for 420€.

But if I'm going for amd i should definitely wait for navi, should i?

Please, after you...

I'm also in a hard wait, my finger is right on the trigger itching badly to execute it for either RTX 2060 or Vega 56 while Navi is coming closer..
