Have you ever seriously damaged your phone?

I'm curious how often people damage their phone, such as cracked screen or completely destroyed.

I seriously damaged my phone twice. The first one was by using a 12V to USB adaptor my dad got on ebay that fried the charging port on my phone. The other was a smashed rear glass panel on a Galaxy A5 but tbf I didn't break that. Someone else did when I left it with the coaches at my swimming training and it got knocked onto the tiles.

I got a Nokia Lumia 830... it doesn't get damaged... IT DAMAGES everything it hits... 

 

Dropped it out of my pocket at twitchcon europe the last time... Concrete floor chipped, phone not a scratch/dent...

I have never had a broken phone. Over the last couple of years I have only used about 2 USD cases from China and have dropped my phones a couple times (as in, dropped my previous phone a couple times and my current one a couple times.. etc.) and have had no damage.

Of course the screen does have some microscratches and the corners kind of have the silver paint stripped off from the crud in the case, but it works fine.

 

Most my other portable/handheld devices are good too, my original GameBoy, GBA, Nintendo DS, 3DS are still in good condition despite lugging them around a ton over the years. 

 

The only electronic device I have actually damaged myself was a Nintendo DS Lite. It was a system I bought for 2 euros on a flea market, it had a somewhat broken shell and some dead pixels on its top screen.

I took it apart - as I like to do with a ton of gaming devices - and during the disassembly I broke a connector off of the board; it was the connector for the touch functionality of the bottom screen, so that part doesn't work on the board anymore.

At the moment I did that, it sucked and I felt terrible. But I modded it some (to a GameBoy Macro, basically I took the topscreen off and boom, best way to play GBA games) and I quite like it like this too. I can also say it was a learning experience, accidents happen and it's better to make them on these low value devices, rather than with bigger investments.

I needed to add soap (it's the truth). oh yeah no case for my phone. Almost all of my phone is cause by water, one time I bring phone to wash my hand and accidently turn on the shower and it just go straight for my phone and yeah it's after that phone.

I have never damaged my phone and I have never used a case. I just use a skin and screen protector

I have never seriously damaged a phone, however I've never ran a case on ANY of my phones till my S10+, my S8+ was fairly cracked by the time I got around to the upgrade (it was great up unitl about 8 months before my planned upgrade)

i've only broken one phone and that was by dropping it on a metal bar and smashed the screen (galaxy note 2), it was in a case. every other phone i've had has never been damaged and I no longer use cases because if it's going to break, it's going to break, i'm careful with my devices. the last 2 phones before my current one, the batteries wore out which made me upgrade

I completely destroyed my phone by driving over it in my all terrain wheelchair that weighs over 200 kg/440 lbs, still worked, but was completely mangled,it was Nokia Lumia, so not that weird that it still worked.

Only one phone, and its more like it damaged itself. Was in an otterbox for all of this. Went through 3 in the span of 2 years before giving up. It was a Moto X 2015

 

Phone #1: Dropped phone from 2' in the air. Screen shattered. Charge port became so loose the micro-b no longer stayed in

 

Phone #2: Cracked in my front pocket while sitting (the thiccness was too much). This phone had intermittent charge port issues

 

Phone #3: Screen didn't crack this time! Otterbox had broken tho, only from normal use. Charge port was fucked, and both the home and volume buttons had collapsed. To turn it off you had to run a battery drainer app until it went flat. After this one I upgraded to a Note 8.

Thats odd, my Note 2 smashed by dropping it too, on a metal floor strip I think it was.

In the last 5 years? Nope, never broken a screen or ruined a phone.

 

The last time I did however wear down a phone was the BlackBerry Bold, the scroll wheel stopped working

actually i damaged my phone because of some random motherboard failure 

 

and it was perfectly fine, i never dropped it and it had an otterbox case with a good screen protector

 

the phone was a lg g3

On my Nexus 4, I didn't have a good case or tempered glass screen protector, and managed to crack the screen twice just by having it in the pocket of my jeans.

 

I wised up by the time I got the Nexus 5X I currently use, so now I always buy a heavy duty case for every phone I have + 2-3 tempered glass screen protectors from ebay.

 

And it paid off a lot. I tend to drop my phone quite a bit, Linus-style, and so far I've broken 4-5 tempered glass screen protectors and got the case nice and cracked. No damage to the phone itself however, so I'd say the case + glass combo works well.

I've fucked up my Mi A1 pretty bad. Once I dropped it and it bent a bit. Not a big deal, it didn't affect functionality at all but it really bugged me, lol. A few months later I dropped it and the screen broke. No big deal, just the glass. Then I dropped it again, and part of the digitizer died. That was a big problem for me, lol. Thankfully, a new back "cover", a matching fingerprint scanner, and a new screen only cost around $70.
