Standard apps for troubleshooting

Hey!

What apps do you use for troubleshooting? This is a pretty broad question as I don't have a specific component that I need to test, just more general 'tech-support' tools that I could use to come to conclusions quicker.

So I have a couple in mind already;

    - RealTemp

    - CrystalDiskInfo

    - Something like MSIAfterBurner (although not something I'd use at work very often)

AIDA64, HWiNFO64, MemTest86 (64 also works in some cases) Prime95, Unigine Superposition, FurMark, CrystalDiskInfo + CrystalDiskMark

I've preached this tool for months: Minitool Partition Wizard. 

Often I find this tool has more luck formatting, managing and repartitioning drives then windows' Disk management tool. 

It's also super good at cloning drives, even often keeping Windows activation across clones. 

Another good one is Etcher or Rufus image installers.

These are what I use:

• CPU/GPU: furmark
• Drives: crystal Mark
• Ram: the built in "windows memory diagnostic" tool

It is also important to limit what is plugged in to the computer when trouble shooting computer issues. The wireless receiver for my Corsair K63 keyboard stops games from launching properly. This also can happen with controller adapters.

And if you are a cheapskate like me, gparted can also do all the managing disk magic, and you can boot it from USB so if you run into a Linux machine, it works

 

Rufus is great for windows, for linux images i would go for Linux Universal USB Installer.

 

That said, Cinebench is also a nice one to have to check if the CPU performance is correct.

Troubleshooting? It depends. If you're talking about some adware, I'm using Autoruns to detect what is starting with my system, AdwCleaner or, if something is really hard, SpyHunter for detect very nasty and hard to find stuff. If you have win7 and problems with boot - Paragon Adaptive Restore. If you're talking about monitoring - CoreTemp and MSI Afterburner. Most of problems can be resolved using built-in tools, but that depends on type of problems.

 

Troubleshooting is not about tools in fact. 50% of this forum is about troubleshooting.

^ Agreed. Depends very much.

 

HWiNFO64 is main one for checking usage numbers and temps. Task Manager too. WinDirSat is my chosen one for looking at big files. Internet testing I do with big torrent files, like OS installers. Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro too for problematic software.

 

But mostly its about common sense and googling. Really depends what symptoms are. What happened prior to issue and so on. Nothing starts without cause. And on windows, OS itself can be main cause for most sudden issues.
