New GPU

Hello.

 

I would like to ask for an advice. I would like to purchase a 3440x1440 120Hz monitor for gaming. I am planning to purchase RTX 2080Ti along side of it.

 

This is my current build.

 

Is this build going to casue a bottleneck for RTX 2080Ti? Also do you think the RTX 2080 would be a better purchase instead of RTX2080Ti?

With that motherboard and cooler, you likely have a decent overclock on that CPU. Depending on the game, it's still possible to have a bottleneck. What games do you plan on playing?

Both the 2080 and 2080Ti will function near identical for gaming with a 1440p monitor since modern titles dont need that much VRAM though of course that depends on the titles and graphics settings you want to play - none of which which you have mentioned. 

 

A bottleneck would be possible but likely minor. At 1080p, the CPU is used more which would probably show a more noticeable bottleneck. But beyond that, its mostly down to the GPU anyway so you shouldnt see much of a bottleneck if you overclock your CPU (can also upgrade it and your motherboard later).

 

However, the 2080Ti is a big purchase. You could go with the 2080 instead and overclock a bit which would save you money for future purchases of components (or have the saved money go towards that monitor you are thinking to purchase). 

 

Also would be worth waiting a bit to see what comes out from AMD in a couple of months as this could create a more competitive market for the next generation and better prices.

I'd go for the 2080 Ti if Ultras is what you're after... if you force GPU bound scenario by throwing as much load on the GPU as possible the i7 4770K at a 4.5ghz~4.7ghz clock which is doable with your settings should suffice for the most part... provided you don't multi-task while playing CPU intensive games.

It's not all a matter of vram, gotta push those pixels too, and a good GPU is necessary alongside all that vram.

I can't deny their existence, if one shall embrace the darkness of pointless Ultra Settings let them be, but as a bonus I'll redo it.

 

A RTX 2080 is 100% enough for 3440x1440p, as I game on this resolution with a GTX 1080 Ti of similar performance I can tell OP 100fps margin is obtainable if CPU allows such across the board with minimal adjust to settings, often giving up on taxing AA and use only FXAA already does the trick.

 

You can save money and have on pair gaming experience to the point unless the person is a tech savvy into bragging rights they won't be able to differentiate the PC running Ultra on 2080 Ti and the PC running Very High on 2080.

I am looking to play games such as Metro: Exodus, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Rainbow six siege but i would also like it to be future proof for upcoming games like Cyberpunk, Elder Scrolls VI...

 

I dont mind turning some settings down.

With a 2080 or 2080 ti, you'll likely be able to near max those games for a good framerate. The only one that may suffer is assassins creed, notoriously hard on the CPU.

I can confirm this AC: Odyssey is very CPU intensive. Even with a 8700k overclocked to 5ghz and a 1080ti at 1440p with a mix of ultra and high settings I still get some drops in the bigger cities where more objects and npcs have to be loaded in.
