i5 2500 vs i5 2500k

I have a 2500 in my system now which is OEM and cant overclock any CPU. Is the 2500k better than the 2500 at its stock speeds? I dont want to get an i7 2600 as its price isnt worth the upgrade and the 2500k seems better than the 2600 but is that higher performance given on its base clock or overclocked?

It makes absolutely no sense to "upgrade" from an i5 2500 to an i5 2500K on a board that can't overclock.

 If a processor with notably better performance (i7-2600) doesn't make sense, im confused how the 2500k would.

 

Depending on your motherboard, the OEM may have issued a newer BIOS that allows the use of 3rd gen CPU's.

2500k is not worth it at all. the 2600 makes more sense if the price is low enough

What if I upgrade from a non K 2500 to a 2600 for £70? Is it worth the performance? I don't want to spend if it won't help much because I'm getting bad bottleneck in open world AI heavy games like watchdogs 2 and FiveM

£70 is a bit much imo. Maybe if you can find one for 50-60 it would be okay. According to this benchmark you can expect some reasonable performance gains in Watch dogs 2
