Worth Upgrading CPU?

I'm wanting to upgrade my GPU and PSU and am wondering if it's worth upgrading my CPU at the same time, or in the near future.

 

My current PC:

CPU - Ryzen 7 1700

RAM - 32gb Corsair LPX (2x16) 3000mhz

GPU - MSI 970

PSU - Corsair CS550M

Mobo - MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon

 

Looking at getting a 2060 card and most likely new power supply, though have not looked into that yet.

Would definitely wait a few months as ryzen 3000 (zen 2) is just around the corner. Scheduled for release in Q3 ‘19.

sell the 970 now and get the 2060, and if the performance doesn't meet your standards, get Ryzen 3000 when it drops.

2060 can't compete when there's a vega 56 pulse for £260, also added a new psu in there too. Pretty much costs the same as a 2060 on it's own for both of these.

1700 is fine especially with the RTX 2060 level GPU; give it a 3.8+ all-core OC and you shouldn't have a problem unless you're chasing super high refresh rates.

 

If you didn't consider a 9900k an upgrade then you won't consider a Ryzen 3000 an upgrade either.

 

Ride out the 1700 as long as you can, upgrade to whatever is new and powerful when it isn't good enough anymore, which is probably like 3+ years away.

Hadn't looked at Vega cards, however have found this on sale which seems like a great price, tempted to go with this!

Yes, that's very good too if you're willing to pay that. Either vega card is better than the 2060 on overall value so get whichever you prefer. You'll need to change the psu to a RMx 650w to be safe though.

Was looking at that yeah. Not sure how accurate it is but on pc part picker I shoved in my specs and it's saying my current PSU should be fine. Tempted to keep it and i'll buy a new one if I run into any issues.

I wouldn't if I were you. Not for vega anyways. It's one of the old green corsair units, and although it's 80+ gold, that doesn't tell the whole story. It's not that great a psu. If you're staying with that psu, you may want to go with the 2060 instead because it's far more efficient.
