Upgrading MacBook Pro storage (need clarification)

Hey, so I just bought a refurbished 2013 15” MacBook Pro, and I’m looking to upgrade the internal storage.

So I’m trying to figure out how much acceptable storage is possible in this system, I know 1TB of flash is possible, however I’m wondering about larger capacity such as a 2TB (I have seen some not many) or anything larger.!

Now, cost wise I’m sure the 1TB is a great deal, however jumping to 2TB’s seems to be a significant cost increase.

is 2TB’s even possible.!?

i was thinking along the lines of Samsung’s 1TB 970 evo.

You could, but you would need a OWC drive. It's over 2x the cost though.

If it's the correct form factor you can get whatever storage you want. I'm assuming those might still use 2.5" sata solid state drives? If not there may be a m.2 slot you can use but I'm not familiar with Mac's internals.

Interesting... is it a requirement to use the OWC drive? What about https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-2TB-MZ-V7E2T0BW/dp/B07C8Y31G1

That link you posted says the length of the drive is 89mm whereas the samsung 2tb is considered 2280 which should mean 22mm wide and 80mm long. Does this mean mac's have a special proprietary size drive?
