Too many variables to say definitively.  Air Cooling is very good and AIO's have their uses outside of just raw cooling.  Depends on what you want out of it.

Trusted Noctua from my first build. I had people surrounding me on this forum telling me my house would burn down if I used the NH-D15 on the FX9590. Contacted Noctua personally and they told me it was nonsense (I didn't know much at the time), so I trusted them. 2 years later and my D15 is still handling the 9590 with ease. Never looking back. If Air can handle the 9590 then it can handle anything as far as I'm concerned.

 

Team Noctua is king!

Sort of. Unless you are very space constrained or have a lot of money to throw at it.

 

Currently the nh-d12A is king in terms of smaller 120mm aircoolers. 

 

Exoencive and good AIOs have their uses and are pretty darn good, but they just arent worth it

Like jstudrawa said, too many variables. Like how pcs have bottlenecks, coolers also have them and in this case the fans are the bottleneck holding the water cooler back. If they had put the same noctua fans on all coolers, I'm willing to bet water would have won.

You must factor in "preference" even if Air Coolers are better deals there's plenty of people who simply likes AiO better and that alone makes sells.

but also consider that people often feel that way for no good reason, because like mentioned in the video, there's an underlying mentality that "water is just better"

Only time I would ever consider water cooling is if I was filthy rich. Then I'd make a super high end computer that would include a custom loop, because let's face it, custom loops are the ultimate proof of one's nerd cred. ❤️

If you want pretty go liquid cooled.

 

My computers have big ugly Noctua NH-D15s in them. They are functional but not pleasing to the eye. Anyone seeing them for the first time usually say "That is the size of my head".

 

If I need another cooler I will get the Noctua NH-U12A.  It seems to do very well.
