Q2 2019 shows strongest iPad growth in six years

Despite declining iPhone sales as the entire market tapers off, iPad sales have posted extremely good earnings this quarter.

Quote

Apple's iPad sales hit $4.9 billion in Q2 2019, up from $4 billion in the year-ago quarter, marking a 22 percent increase in revenue.

22% over last quarter is incredible for a market section with what I thought was very little drive behind it.

Quote

Apple in October 2018 introduced all new iPad Promodels that eschew the Touch ID Home button in favor of a Face ID biometric system, allowing for a larger display area. Apple says that the iPad's revenue growth was largely due to a strong customer response to the iPad Pro.

I would have thought that the release of the $329 iPad would have sparked sales in the lower end market for people just looking for a media consumption tablet. But it would appear that the feature rich iPad Pro takes most of the credit.

New offerings like the new iPad Mini and iPad Air, which are equipped with the A12 Bionic, should also help entice people to buy or upgrade their old tablets at their new lower price points. $399 and $499 respectively. While these devices will help contribute to Apples overwhelming command over the tablet market, they don’t contribute to revenue as much.

Atm iPad is software limited. As the Pro iPads now have extreme hardware performance and nothing much to use them on. Expect big things for iPad at WWDC this June.

I mean, the iPad Pro are awesome devices (I don't care about the price, no one should give an unwanted opinion about how to invest or waste money), but I really thought that the cheap 300€ iPad would be their best seller with a huge margin over the Pro

To be fair, in the source there is not a single mention which one is the most sold. Might be the Pro, might be not. Apple says that Pro contributed most to the revenue with a good customer response and that I believe the.

EDIT: don't forget that Apple increased the price of the new Pro so more money there

It was compared to the same quarter last year, increase in sales is because of their new line, nothing magical.

Yeah but one would think that the Apple Pencil support and the awesome performance of the iPad 2018 would harm the iPad Pro sales, despite the bigger screen I can't really think of any reason why a regular person would buy the Pro over the iPad 2018, maybe misinformation on how good the iPad Pro over the 2018 is? Maybe to show off? Or just Apple's great marketing? That's what I don't really get here

Great design. Like amazing design (I personally would just buy for that, tbh and I think there a lot of other people who would too). Pro-motion 120hz display, quad speakers (which sounds fucking fantastic on my 9.7 iPad Pro. I imagine 11" to be better), New Apple pencil, USB-C, etc

That was mindfuck for me as well. Apparently their Q1 ends on 29. December. Basically they are one quarter ahead. I'll give free internet points to the person that can explain me WHY? Unless the answer is that they just decided to take fiscal year differently. Maybe same how Japan is 1 quarter behind, so their fiscal year starts on 1. April.

I think they wanted their Q1 to be the holiday season. What's wrong with the number 4 instead of 1, no clue

Yeah I know what you mean with design, I'm very selective with what I buy too, if i don't like the design I just don't buy it (those times I mind the design)

I had an iPad Air 2 and the speakers were amazing, but didn't use them so so soooooo much and sooooooo loud because well mobile speakers are a bit weak, are the quad speakers worth the extra price?

Anyway, I can't think of any new feature to be worth 3x the price of the iPad 2018 for the regular customer, maybe I had enough with the iPad Air 2 or maybe I haven't tried that much the new Pro

The quad speakers on the newer iPads are better than most of the laptops. And yes, there is massive difference compared to the Air 2. Honestly, even I think it's too expensive. And you can get away with 329$ iPad for 95% of the things you do on an iPad.

The price depends on the person if it's worth it or not. You have a wide range of iPad options, so it's upto the individuals

The downside with the cheap iPad is the A10 Fusion, while no slouch is old. The Air and Mini have the A12 Bionic and nicer displays, and more RAM I think.

According to first info seemed like it bombed, but according to latest info and financial report from yesterday, it sold better than S9 (which is not a big feat honestly) and:

its mobile division experienced an increase in revenue on a quarter-to-quarter basis with the help of improved sales of the Galaxy S10

According to Samsung people. Turns out it's a success. Kind of?

There is no iPad Pro mini.

Smaller bezels, larger screen, promotion, A12x, Apple pencil 2, usb-c, smart connector, quad speakers.

The mini (and the air 3 for that matter) are priced poorly compared to the existing 2018 iPad (even when it was new) -- they should both either be cheaper or more powerful. But they're not, so they end up in an odd market position where they're too expensive (relative to Apple's own offerings) for what they offer and not powerful enough to be considered 'pro'.

What about the most powerful SoC in a smartphone isn’t powerful enough? The A12X in the pros doesn’t even get utilized to its full potential in iOS. The design could have been updated, but again there is no iPad Mini Pro.

It it is my belief that the iPad mini is not a Pro device because of its very consumer form factor. Apple also has the need to create product separation and adding another iPad to the already crowded lineup doesn’t help that.

I do that the iPad mini and the iPad Air are in a weird spot right now, but the solution in my view is to lower the price of the $329 iPad down to $299 and give it the A11 Bionic. Not making other iPads cheaper or adding an entire new product.
