Cloudflare Errors

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

So basically every time I visit a forum page, I get Cloudflare errors, usually Bad Gateway. It works after a bit, but it's really annoying having to wait to respond to a notification I get.

My rig is so crappy it's irrelevant to put here. Though my AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ from like 2006 has a higher clock speed(2.6GHz) and the same core count than my Intel Celeron-2955U 1.4GHz right now.

I've already done both of those things, but thanks.

Might be your ISP. Or IP being flagged as potential bot activity.

It's clearly an issue from the forum's side, not from the user

While that page might look like it, we all would have been getting same. And that causes more threads about it.

I've tried it on 3 different devices and another network too.

Error 502 means the problem is somewhere in Cloudflare or our server, not a client side issue.

The ray ID from that error hasn't shown up in the forum logs, which means the error seems to be happening in that hard-to-debug area between Cloudflare and the forum.

How long has this been happening, is it still happening, and approximately what fraction of page loads does it affect?

I don't work for Floatplane Media, so any Floatplane comments that I make are my own and may be incorrect or in conflict with the official view.

90% of page loads, it's still happening, and I think it started a little bit after I joined the forum, so January-ish.

Can you open the dev console (F12, console tab) and run

const test = (p, i) => i === 20 ? p : fetch(`https://linustechtips.com/main/?src=requestCheck&i=${i}`).then(r => test([...p, {ray: res.headers.get("CF-Ray"), status: res.status}], i+1))
JSON.stringify(await test([], 0))

After a few seconds, maybe up to a couple of minutes, it will print out a string. What is that string?

Sadly, I'm on a managed Chromebook right now and my school blocked the Console...*dies inside*

It will take several seconds to run, then output some data to post here.

Are there any pages that get the error more than others? All 20 of the requests that the tool sent to the forum homepage were successful.

When I click on forum pages from my notifications, I get 502 errors, and sometimes when I click on pages from the homepage they spit out 502 errors.

OK, I've updated the script to try and catch that - try running it again. Are you sure it affects about 90% of page loads?

It usually does it after I go offline for a bit then come back, it's happening a lot less now though. Thanks
