2 in 1 needed, with stylus pen

Just broke my Asus transformer mini, actually just the power button somehow, but that thing gives me a headache. The Intel Atom processor inside struggles to do just about anything, and the battery's dying, so if I can fix it and sell it as working it's funding a new laptop instead of going back into regular use.

 

Since it was not a great find, I don't particularly trust I can actually find what I'm looking for. My requirements:

- ipad-ish size, the transformer mini is like 10 inches so I like it little.

- at least 32GB of storage, no spinning rust. Gotta survive a few drops (the mini has held up so far, until the power button issue.)

- battery life of 4 hours, shouldn't be so hard to find

- relatively inexpensive. No hard and fast limit, because I want to have the chance to invest in something nice if it's worth it, but I spent $250 on the transformer mini if that gives you an idea of what I'm after.

 

but above all else

 

- stylus pen

 

I need the laptop for notes, so without the pen it's worthless. Try typing integrals and greek symbols, it's a pain in the ass.

Maybe try a iPad and Logitech crayon. That would come out to $400 and should be a good value if you just need it for notes.

i'd say a surface go would be pretty great for your needs, but more expensive than that transformer mini...

The transformer mini was an upgrade from my old iPad, OneNote has been excellent and I don't particularly want to go back to iOS. The windows operating system is super handy when I can do the same stuff on both my laptop and desktop.

Are there a few different surface Go models? I found one earlier but it lacked a stylus pen I believe.

it doesn't have one included... but it works with the general surface pen

 

and btw, consider a second hand or refurbished surface too

I likely will be getting a refurb of whatever model I like most, amazon is full of them.

sounds like a solid plan to me... it's that i'd rather have a thicc performing laptop than a ultrabook/tablet, but those are pretty nice

thicc laptops usually have hard drives instead of ssds so more risk of damage via my rough and tumble handling, I'll have to see what model specifically, if a non ultrabook is recommended.

Bit of an odd suggestion, but maybe check out the Lenovo Yoga Book.

An interesting option to consider, but Android OneNote is not as good as windows. I'll look into it, it's not so different from my transformer mini (down to the Intel atom CPU)

But it has the Wacom...keyboard? Tablet? Whatever, you know what I'm talking about...

 

It also runs Windows, and you can probably get Linux on it. If I did a lot of drawing on the go, I'd probably get one myself.

Linux would actually be ideal but touch support is very hit or miss

Could get an older Thinkpad Tablet, those have Wacom digitizers with excellent Linux support. X201T gets my vote. Had one, absolutely loved it.
