Micron launches the 9300 series NVMe SSDs, with high speeds, extreme endurance and capacities up to 15.36TB (also: how to vaporize your wallet).

People might not like the word 'futureproof', but this is definitely very futureproof.

Micron has released their 9300 series, which is a fast SSD, with very high endurance (close to matching Optane drives) and amazing capacities up to 16TB. For comparison, the previous highest consumer SSD was 4TB of capacity and it was SATA (Samsung's 860 series), and the highest HDD size available today is 14TB. This drive is geared towards the enterprise market, but it could get on store shelves.

Well the Read/Write speeds isn't staggering since there's plenty of 3GB/s+ Sequential SSDs in the market already.

well Intel and Samsung have those light saber length SSDs with that capacity before already. Now if this thing hits retail it will be really impressive though dont see many buying it

If we look at it as cycle life, it is still some way behind Optane. Looking at my 900p as example, the effective rated cycle life is about 18k times, compared to approx. 2.2k/5.8k cycles for Pro and Max versions respectively. Of course, in part due to their massive capacity, the bytes written endurance is still massive.

For same rated warranty duration (both are 5 years) then DWPD is proportional to cycle life, and the different I mentioned remains.

 

Wonder how their Max differs from Pro, is it better flash grade, or do they just overprovision more?

I thought it was something different.... when you claim it vaporize intel's optane, the title is so misleading to me. that 15.36TB sounds nice but I am sure pretty much everyone is heading in that direction currently.

I meant about the endurance (using DWPD) and speed, mostly. I honestly have no idea about 4K speeds. It is pretty misleading though, i'll edit that out

It's kind of weird to think that we're standing here gawking at 15TB the same way we used to gawk at 15GB drives. Elder Scrolls 9 is gonna need twice that space.

I'm pretty sure my purpose in life is to serve as a warning for others.
