9th gen CPU on 8th gen motherboard

Hello, my friend received his first PC parts to build a PC today, but he bought a Intel Core i7 9700K and a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO motherboard. On the box of the motherboard stands *Requires eligible 8th gen Intel core i7 or i5. Is this a problem?

The Z390 is a 9th Generation MB, so is the 9700K so he is fine.

Are you sure there isn't something wrong in here? Because Z390 IS 9th gen.

Can you get a pic of the motherboard box?  Not sure he's telling you correctly what he bought.

It will work just fine, with that motherboard. But still could you provide an picture?

Eligible? Is it for some kind of software promotion? Look up the mobo model webpage to check hardware compatibility but should be fine. At worst, might use a bios update.

This is interesting, are you sure it's Z390 chipset? Intel did do a bundle called Core i5+ / Core i7+ where they would sell the locked i5 8400/8500/8600 and locked i7 8700 with an Intel Optane Memory module, this motherboard could be part of the marketing for this bundle but it'd still make more sense if it was a z370 (h370/b360) board.
