What music service do you use?

Legolessed

I currently use Spotify free but have become increasingly annoyed with the fact that it will inject random songs into playlists at times and I’ve also been desiring more and more the feature of downloading my music. Is Spotify premium the best way to do this or is there another service that’s better? I’m completely open to trying something knew and not loyal to any brand or company. Thank you!

I've been using Spotify (Premium, mind you) for about 7 months now and this is literally the first time I've heard of this happening.

By downloading music, do you mean downloading for offline playback or adding in your own MP3 files? I've been able to do both with my Premium account, although I'm not certain about how a free account goes about these.

Spotify free in a web browser is usable and adblock does work with it. Along with that, I have my own music service i.e. a Plex server on which I have hundreds of albums downloaded. If I were you I would go with Spotify premium. From the brief research that I have done, Spotify just seems better than anything else on the market.

With Spotify Free it will automatically add random songs to playlists.

On the Spotify mobile app, go to Settings > Playback and disable Autoplay to stop it adding new songs.

Having used Google Play Music for 2 years, Apple Music for 3 months, and now Spotify for the past 7 months, Spotify's convenience factor beats out the rest easily to me.

Having to pay £9.99 a month is the one drawback as a non-student, but that's worth it to me as I use Spotify for easily 3-5 hours a day listening to my favorite music from all of my devices.

I've even added some of my own songs that can't be found on Spotify and added them to my current playlists with no problem.

Additionally, Spotify also has Discord and PS4 integration so it makes things even easier for users to streamline their Spotify experience.

Spotify Premium is my personal favorite. I've tried Apple Music, Amazon, YT Premium, Tidal, Google, and they've all just made me like Spotify more.

Real trick is get some buddies together and sign up for a family plan, makes the price considerably more bearable.

Youtube+adblock has the best music selection and ~150kbps opus is good enough. Since most of the songs there are from CD rips too there isn't any audible watermark on most of the pieces either (and you can usually find versions without), which is much more noticeable than the lossy compression.

I use tidal due to me being a huge audiophile, so thats the way i would go, but there really isnt a point unless your headphone/speaker setup is decent. I used to use spotify premium and it was quite good (i still use it on mobile, just not too much.) the quality was perfectly fine for the average person.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

I just have like a huge folder of FLAC files, not to listen to, but to rip down to lower bitrates and store on my phone, or if I really want to, I used Dopamine as a local music player on my computer.

Not a huge audiophile, but I like owning my music, and knowing that I will always be able to rip it down to another format or a lower bitrate just keeps my mind at peace.

But if you've got your eyes set on streaming services, you can go for Spotify Premium, which has pretty good quality, but if you're hugely into listening for quality, I highly suggest either Deezer or Tidal, since they have really good sounding files. I'd rank Tidal the best and Deezer just falling short, but remember, they are asking for quite the monthly fee. If you're fine with Spotify quality and you want to stick with a familiar UI, Spotify Premium is definitely something to think about.

Work pays for a Spotify account and because of my job in AV it happens to be under my name so I use Spotify.

before that, I was buying CDs and iTunes. I do like to own music but I don’t have to as long as I have Spotify.

A lot of stuff I like (such as game and movie soundtracks) doesn’t exist on streaming services so I tend to buy that.

I use amazon music unlimited. It works well for my needs. I can DL songs for offline play. I travel a lot for work and the app integrates well with android auto and CarPlay (depending on what phone I am using). I can use voice commands when I’m driving. I’ve also found the quality is very reasonable in my hifi setup at home.

The one complaint I have is that it will disable an entire album because they added a new deluxe version or whatever, and it won’t “transfer” the links of the music added to my account. This has mainly been an issue with older albums that I added when I started.

And while I haven’t compared it to other family plans, at $15 a month for more than one concurrent user, it’s a bit steep IMO. Although one person can go into offline mode on a mobile device and one other can still stream normally with the single user plan.

Spotify offering Hulu at no added cost sealed the deal for me on it. Its ad supported Hulu, but still.

I totally get you, I just have way too much time on my hands, so a FLAC library is what I organize when I'm bored.

Maybe it's because of my obscure taste, but everything released recently has sounded so similar to each other that I haven't added a much to my library ?

That's why I like Spotify I used to listen to alot of indie and alternative rock but found myself enjoying a lot of older hip hop like Mf doom , nugabe's , or stuff from dj Honda and realized I might also be a hip hop head . And didn't know where to start for.newer hip hop and Spotify's exploration and recommendations are too good. Found some new alternative bands and also a lot of newer more popular rappers that I really enjoy plus I still have my old music cause Spotify has almost everyone I used to listen to anyway
