asus 1080 strix oc problem

Clairu

Hello there guys i just upgraded few days ago from my gygabite 970 g1  to asus 1080 strix oc version. But i have an problem that is ocuring when playing new games on ultra settings. Example metro exodus on extreme and ultra i can play it for like 10-15min and then the screen frezes and u still hear the sound u can press esc or shoot. I set my rgb lights on the gpu it to show me the temperature color. So the gpu goes red around 80C where it sattles and then when the freeze happens it cools down and goes back to green. I tried Resident Evil 2 also it gives me an error on ultra settings and when i turn vsync on i can play normally. So only if i push my gpu i get the problems. Also i might think is my psu. Its an seasonic 430w bronze (gives 360w on 12v).

spec:
i5 3350p

8gb ddr3

dont mind the cpu i know its bottlenecking the gpu but i dont think its the problem with it.

Forgot to mention that i did a clean windows install and i have the latest drivers

That GPU shouldn't be reaching 80c, maybe you could try setting a custom fan curve, or figuring out why it is getting so hot (thermal paste dry/bad case airflow).

Well i still have warranty on it so i will loose it if i open the gpu. i can try with an aggresive fan curve one and see the results

All that heat holding it back.

Stock reference board. The card in my other system hits 2000 stock.

damn that looks awesome. But here is hard to find EVGA cards. The only fan on my case is the one back near my cpu so i should just get me more i guess

Also using vysnc is a helper to and gets down temperature a lot

Lol, I’d imagine. Lowering gpu usage and load does do that.

I ordered  3 fans. They are like 1200rpm, my case is this like on the pic. Should i put them like that on 1 and 2?

Well another spot obviously. Depends on the cpu cooler. Which I assume is stock or a tower.

Test and see which would help the most.

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought me a new psu and added the 3 fans on 1 and 2 and i got 15C degrees less temps. So problem was bad airflow and lack of fans xD
