a friend of mine has issues with mouse freezing?

A friend of mine has mouse issues it seems to freeze up in windows and in game any solutions? the mouse is a RAT 3 and he is running windows 7, if that helps its getting annoying when we game together he freezes in game and says its the mouse so I thought I would ask here about it.
