Server power supply replacement

Reddax

Hi,

I'm running a server in a SC5650DP case with Unraid, and most of the time it sits idle waiting for Plex streams. I have a UPS running the server which shows power stats, and it uses about 150 watts idle. It has a E35746-004 power supply but it's constantly kicking out blistering hot heat. I'm trying to look for a replacement which is a lot cooler and quieter, it's a 600w (E35746-004) power supply.

I'm not sure where to start looking. Help would be appreciated.

Hey I actually have this case as well ?

The case supports any standard ATX PSU you just need to get one with two EPS connectors, I'm assuming you've got a dual socket motherboard in it. EVGA 650 P2, Corsair AX860 and RM750x for example. There's a lot more PSUs with 2 EPS connectors.

Brill. Thank you. I got the server with everything in it with 1 cpu for £40 then threw in an extra Intel Xeon E5620 cpu for £4 so I'm extremely happy with price to performance. The motherboard is the Intel® Server Board S5500BC.

This should bring the temps down a lot, especially in the room its sat in.

Yea it's a pretty nice compact case and the 6 hotswap bays are nice. Mine came with dual PSU configuration which is a little noisy but not as bad as the original massive fans on it. I put on Corsair H55's, managed to front mount one with A LOT of effort, but still used the original fans however the much better cooling and heat transfer means the fans almost never go above minimum RPM.

Spoiler

Looks to me like that board only has 1 EPS connector so you may not be restricted to PSUs with 2 EPS.
