Motherboard wont detect second GPU

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited) · Original PosterOP

Oookay i'm continuing my troubleshooting on this build...

Atm my MB wont detect the second GPU, and got to say i'm pretty clueless right now.

I have just tested that both GPUs are working, but the second GPU does not show either on wattman, windows or in bios.

Did amd driver cleanup and reinstalled all drivers, just to have that out of the way.

Crosshair VI Hero

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

G-Skill FlareX 16GB 3200Mhz

2xVega 64

Corsair HX1200

Pic is what bios show when there are two GPUs connected.

Does your motherboard have Crossfire support?

Any chance your PSU isn't up to powering 2 GPUs?

PSU is Corsair HX1200, so nope.

Yep

Do you have crossfire and multi gpu support enabled in bios? Most Asus boards have an option you have to enable to allow multiple gpus to work. Otherwise only one will work.

just because theres enough power for the two cards doesn't mean that your PSU is working

Update the bios, reseat cpu.

If the cpu can power a card for it to shop up, that means it’s working. So can’t blame the psu.

A known working card going on the second slot and not registering means it’s software or the board.

Just to eliminate the possibility of it being too much for one rail, follow the instruction in the image below.

OH, what if you plug the card into the lower x16 slot with nothing in the top?  Does it work then?

You don’t need to turn crossfire on. That’s not how that works. The cards will register regardless. Even if the board doesn’t support crossfire. Anyone who says that doesn’t know what they are talking about.

My bad man I've never used Crossfire before I didn't know, I could've sworn I'd seen a crossfire support option in a bios before.... No need to be rude about it. But I do know Asus has a multi gpu support option in their bios I've had to disable that before after switching from dual gpus to one when trying to display from the single GPU didn't work.

I had them out this morning, what was a real pain, i caused a leak;; Now my PC is dryed up and lucky it's still alive. So if i gonna swap around the GPUs again i really need to empty the all loop...

Just found this on Asus:

"Version 68082019/03/1510 MBytes

CROSSHAIR VI HERO BIOS 6808
Update AGESA 0070 for the upcoming processors and improve CPU compatibility.
ASUS strongly recommends installing AMD chipset driver 18.50.16 or later before updating BIOS."

What is the bios version before the one i updated yesterday. So i just installed those drivers and now updating bios again..

Well don’t see why you haven’t drained the loop and tested it already. If you know the cards work, and that slot isn’t working, it’s the board. Or the cpu. Can’t get much simpler. Can even try the third slot as it works all the same for cf.

Hmm found something that Asus Crosshair VI want second GPU in 4_3 slot with a Ryzen 7 2700X, not in the 8_2 slot as with a Ryzen 7 1800X what i used earlyer.

If that's so, it really sucks as the GPU with a waterblock do not fit there :/

The manual would clearly stay that. Doesn’t mean it won’t show up. Should still recognize devices unless using other stuff like nvme disables the slot or it needs turned on.
