Granted my entire job is a mixture of production validation and QA, I'm usually among the first to blame users for perceived defects. This is not one of them. It shouldn't be so simple to absolutely destroy your device by doing something customers have grown to do routinely with screens on our new devices: remove the OEM protective film.

I get it, there was a tiny warning on the first layer and that warning said "may damage." In reality, it seems like it "will damage" your device. If it "will damage" the device, then why is it designed to be easily removed by naive customers?

Which one is the main screen?

The one with the protective layer ?

I want to see a YouTuber who tried doing the satisfying plastic peel with it for the camera only to realise half way through that it's not meant to come off.

Uh......... I think a bigger screen because apparently it's better to have one clunkly device that breaks easily instead of a standard phone and then a tablet if you really need a bigger screen on a mobile OS.

I can't ever see myself needing a huge phone like that. Occasionally I wish my phone had a bigger screen, but non of those times would I actually bother to unfold it if I could, seems like a waste of time. Also is it $2000? That's a bloody lot, just buy a top of the line flagship phone and then a surface go (or probably pro for that price tbh).

A tablet won't fit in my pocket.

So someone would have to be insane to be willing to buy a device that doesn't require them to change their every day routine.

Yep, those are the insane people. Not the one who thinks that everyone around themselves should change their habits to match theirs.

Not to mention that I can assure you, replacing my suits, work clothes, and personal clothes would cost a hell of a lot more than the $2000 that the phone costs.

But the true question is: If it seems like it can be peeled off like a protective film, how long it will last in use? It doesn't take a lot movement from that grease to slowly stress and work out the film and when it lifts off even little it will start to get pulled by everything and stuff gets under it and very soon it's bye bye 2000$ phone and I guess warranties don't cover "expectted wear and tear".

Neither will this by the looks of it, it looks massive. But even if it does, why do you need a tablet in your pocket? Most tablets can't do anything phones can't, at least not something you would need to do on the go. You could afford a phone, tablet, and a really nice backpack and/or case for a tablet, so I still don't see the point in this phone.

Wait so you can't put a screen protector on it? That's dumb, if I buy a $2000 phone that is basically just a massive screen I expect to be able to protect it.

For everyone screaming "dumb people not reading", you might wanna take another look. Watch the part of the video, I have time stamped it, it seems that MKBHD's review unit did not come with a warning. I am gonna go on a limb and say that review units do not have the warning.

I am not sure there is a single foldable protector out there? At least a good one.

You could use two regular screen protectors, not ideal but it would work, I'm sure a company would have released one if Samsung hadn't prevented them from working.

Do you have a source that Samsung prevented them? You mean because of extra protection layer?

Either way, even if you were to use 2 of them, you would have gap in the middle, which is better than nothing if you ask me.

Of course it will. When folded it's only thicker than a normal phone -- it's otherwise similarly sized. And it's only about twice as thick as a normal phone. It will very easily fit in virtually all pockets. Comparatively, a 7" tablet that is 160x120x7 will absolutely not (and if it does, then it will be impossibly uncomfortable, extremely difficult to remove/insert into a pocket, and likely to break as you move).

There are a lot of times when I could use a bigger screen -- and clearly I'm not alone in that camp given that phones have steadily been growing in size. If size didn't matter, then all phones would still be <3".

Again, I don't want to have to carry a backpack. So, if I want a bigger screen, then my options are to either by a foldable phone (only inconvenient in cost, ignoring first gen teething problems, which will eventually go away if the concept catches on), or be unable to take advantage of the benefits of a bigger screen.

Just because something doesn't make sense to YOU, doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense for others. Just like plenty of other people would look at you like you're crazy for wasting money on a 2070 when a used 750Ti would work perfectly fine.

Surely a screen protector won't break the phone -- it's almost certainly that it can't be removed without potentially damaging the screen protector they put in place, and thus they warn you not to put one on.

Unless you have a very flexible screen protector, no you can't.

The warning label says not to use strong adhesives on the screen, so screen protectors are out the window unless they're as flexible as the screen itself.

Probably because they would peel Samsung's protection when you'd remove the protector at some later date. Makes sense.

Products are meant to be designed for people to use, you shouldn’t have to have labels like this, because it shouldn’t be there in the first place.

You shouldn’t expect people to know everything about the product, read the manual etc. People are people.

Basically, unlike traditional phone screens, these don't have a layer of glass on top of the screen to protect it. Hmmm I wonder if this'll lead to "flexible" glass solutions

Sure go break some laws and claim in court you didn't know about them and see if that'll help ya out. Ignorance isn't a good excuse to be stupid (although if the review units didn't come with any manuals then that's a different story.)

It’s not really ignorant to peel off a protective cover - just like any other phone. It’s about your target audience. I’d probably fire the person who designed the screen protector in this way.
