UKs Porn Pass law has just passed, will go into affect in July

This is most likely actually more scarier, they are trying to collect data on viewers, and there is no better way than a photo ID that matches you.

Do you reckon the bloke in the newsagent selling the passes even cares beyond it being a legit id?   Imagine working in a place that sells this stuff, it'll be no different than what is what like back int he 80's when the only porn was what you bought over the counter anyway.  They aren't taking notes and they don't give a fuck who buys it beyond any legal trouble they can get into.

EDIT: besides that, they already have all the data they need about you  and your family, this won't help them at all in that department.

Torrent sites are already blocked here and ISPs will cut users Internet off if they download pirated content.

Maybe a small handful of public trackers are blocked, and an even smaller amount of ISPs actually care enough to block the mirror sites. I've been with Virgin Media since they became a thing, torrenting on private trackers all this time, never had so much as a warning letter (because I only torrent non-copyrighted material, of course ?). Last month they sent me an automated email about my average monthly usage and how much I must love the internet.

As per the norm, people will find a way around nanny state interference.

Just save all your porn locally on SD cards or thumb drives so you can hide it in a physical location.

It seems this law didn't end up going into effect and now it's pretty much abandoned over privacy concerns.

Tech firms sue Government for £3MILLION in damages over scrapped online PORN BAN for under 18s claiming they lost money developing software before it was shelved over privacy fears

Quote

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC)  said in April that 18 'determined teenagers will find ways to access pornography'.

The legislation, announced in April, had already been delayed twice before it was finally scrapped in October.

In a written statement to MPs at the time, Ms Morgan said the Government 'will not be commencing Part Three of the Digital Economy Act 2017 concerning age verification for online pornography'.

'The Digital Economy Act objectives will therefore be delivered through our proposed online harms regulatory regime.' she wrote.

'This course of action will give the regulator discretion on the most effective means for companies to meet their duty of care.'

This means it will be left to the BBFC and other non-governmental bodies to police adult content online as they see fit.

If I was a Brit I would have no problems verifying my age provided you give me better resolution on the free stuff.

Sounds like I'll be investing in a good VPN.

Stupid idea.

Magnificent example of the Internet being regulated  by people who don't understand it. It's a ridiculous idea to have porn passes as it opens up lots of privacy concerns and is easy to circumvent.

The entire point of this - to restrict childrens' access to pornographic content - is destroyed by not blocking sites like Reddit. You can find anything on Reddit, and sites like it will become a more popular way to access porn once this comes into effect.

Lol TV license, people still pay that?

Yeah we do. Dates from the era where we had like two or three channels.

But legally you only need it if you want to watch live TV or BBC iPlayer, so for netflix, amazon prime video etc. you technically don't need one.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

Back in my home town, kids are losing their virginity at the age of 14 and 15. Blocking porn will do what good? They are already sexually active in real life.

no one in their right mind should ever share a copy of their ID to the crooked porn sites administrators, online security and lack of privacy is bad as it is, i hope no one respects the law and as soon as some big media case where someones ID was stolen this law is deleted

until then everyone should use VPN, this is so dumb

The law never required that, in fact the law didn't require linking an personal id to anything, not even government servers.
