Issue with RAM frequency.

Ok so it turns out that my IV Gene isn't dead. Just a slightly bent pin. Fixed that and the 4th piece of memory shows up. All the RAM is showing up @ 1333 MHz instead of 1866 (its native speed). So I went into the BIOS and set it to XMP and the speed to 1866 MHz. The BIOS says that the RAM is @ 1866 MHz but CPUz says the RAM frequency is 666.7 MHz. Should it not display 1866 MHz?

Also I cannot get this machine to OC for the life of me. I'm using a 3930K which the previous owner had overclocked to 4.5 GHz no problem. I'm sure it's because I am doing it wrong and have never OC'd this particular CPU or used this board before.....

 

Anyone up to help me out?

it's 666.7 X 4 or something like that, it's not at that low of a frequency

 

That is what I thought but I was like... dafuq? And 666.7 x 4 would be 2666.8 so I'm not sure that is what it is either.

if it's x2 you would still be at 1333mhz, so i think your system is still running at 1333

DDR3 gets it's name as it is Double Data Rate. The speed you see should be doubled to get the actual speed. You are running at 1333.

666.7 x 4 = 2666.8

 

Just the way my RAM is: 836.1 x 2 = 1672.2

Yeah I know what DDR stands for, just thought the tool would grab the actual speed not the DDR rate. So since I am still running @ 1333 the XMP didn't take... zzzz

 

Anyone have any ideas?

No, if that was the case not all the memory would populate. I thought that was the case initially when only 3 sticks showed up. Was just a slightly bent cpu pin. Fixed that and all 4 show up.

 

I'm sure it is something I am doing/not doing under the BIOS. I'm not familiar with the ASUS tuner stuff at all.

 

This RAM frequency happens across 2 3930K's so it can't be 2 bad memory controllers.

My 1600mhz sticks are automatically set to 1333mhz in the bios. I have to manually set it to 1600. (Then its over clocked to 1800mhz :D)

Ok so I set the BIOS to manual and the 1866 MHz and that worked. Now to get it to OC. As a side note the Crucial MOD tool (used to change color/lighting effects) on the Tactical Tracer doesn't really work with Win8 and has issues on x79 chipsets.
