PSU Prices Going Up?

Hi Everyone,

 

I've been wanting to upgrade my graphics card but I need a new PSU. I was looking at 500W and 80+ Bronze, for example the EVGA 500B, but the prices have gone up a lot recently.

Should I go for it or wait? (BTW I'm in Canada)

What graphics card are you looking at going to? Whats is your system current specs? PSU prices have been pretty steady recently.

I was thinking for either a GTX 1660ti or RX 580 8GB.

Go for 16GB RAM Kit oh wait looks like you have you listed it twice.  Go with the 580, best bang for your buck.  Other then that everything looks good.

Grab the 580 and if you overclock it which Im not saying fo you to do but it reaches almost 590 levels of performance.  Forget the 1660Ti its a good card but more of a consumer card not a pro gamer card.  Once again please grab the 580 you wont be disappointed.

I definitely will go for a 580 or if I can wait I will go for the next gen Navi cards

What difference does it make if a $10 PSU costs $40 or $60? You shouldn't buy the EVGA B1 either way, as both of those prices are crap for what you get. 

The CX550 is available for $55 after rebate, and the Formula 550W is available for $90 without rebate.

Just remember the PSU in the heart of your system for power you don't want to go super cheap. It will nip ya in the rear in the long run.

I guess I got lucky cause  I've been using the Cooler Master TC102 Combo for about 5 years now

The B1 is group regulated, so it's not suited for modern systems. It also has a lot more ripple. It's louder than the CX550, and it uses a sleeve bearing fan. And it's more likely to have coil whine with higher end GPUs, due to the design of the PSU.

Not to mention the cables just look 100% better. You won't have a rainbow of cables.

Thanks for the help, I've been using the Coolermaster TC102 Combo for about 5 years so i never experienced a good PSU.

 

Going to order the CX550 soon!

Yea, I was thinking about cable extension to get rid of the ketchup and mustard. Also planning on getting the Thermaltake Versa H18 Temper Glass with RGB fans.
