3930k 60C idle temps

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

As you can see, this is my 3930k idle, doing nothing, ive overclocked using manual voltage, and cpu power is always 80-90w, is this normal? When system is under load the temps doesnt go higher then 75c. But why are idle temps 50-60c?

Im cooling it with a coolermaster hyper 212 (i think, im not so sure, i bought the cooler used)

Does seem a tad toasty, for such a mild OC, that said it is only a 212 evo ...

Ah i see .. try using a an offset OC ..manual  static OC means its runing at ur clock all the time. hence the high temp

While these chips used a lot of VCOR compared to the 14nm stuff, I think your idle volts are pretty high at 1.28v.

Either that or doublecheck your thermal paste application.

Ive seen techyescity video on x79 oc, he uses manual oc and he says 1.3v is safe.

Its my gfs pc, so i dont have the time to find a stable oc at offset.

Something smells fishy.. Ive never heard of 60c on idle.  His load temps aren't that well either for a non OCed CPU.  You should be getting 40's C on full load.. Possibly going to low 50's c.

NO choice temporarily ditch the liquid cooling and stick a nice HSF on it and see what your idle and load temps are.  If your satisfied then no need to do this, but if not it's worth a shot.  Grab a Noctua DH-15 or something laying down somewhere just to see what your idle and load temps are.

I used to have a 3930k for several years. Nice chip, it definitely idled around 36-42C though. It would get to 60 or 70 under load for me.

I cooled it with a Cooler Master Gemin ii in a Cooler Master HAF 932 case.

If your idle temps are too high, try an air cooler and a good thermal compound like silver. That chip is large enough that the X method with the dots in each quadrant will be the best bet for best transfer (I think Linus teaches this method for modern Ryzen chips)

Ok so i run my 3930k at 1.368v for 4.6ghz using an offset OC, so it downclocks and downvolts when iit doesnt need all the power, have done since i  got it.

Now granted i use a custom loop now but I had the same OC when i was using a NH-D15.

Idle temp was roughyl the same on my D15 as i have now .. around 30c.

You call 10-40% on some cores idle? what the hell do you guys install on the system for it to idle like that, my 8700K always idles at 0%, and my retarded A8-6600K idles at like 1-3%

Just noticed the other temp sensors readouts ..i think your internal case temp is to high.

No its not that, same temps with the case sidepanel off

The strange part is, idle 60c, and load temps are 75ish. I mean why is that ? It cant be a bad mount or thermalpaste, if that was the case then the load temps would also be skyhigh.....

That! Your CPU isn´t idling.Check again, if there is some computation going on in the background. 40% is quite a load.

Then it looks like your girl just got a free room heater.

i tried setting offset +0.120, and the voltage was 1.4, how the hekk do i set the offset correct on this board?

Just lower the offset till you hit the same load voltage you had previously with your static OC.

Also consider testing out different LLC settings.

LLC on high, the problem with offset, when i got it to stay at 1.280v under load, it blue screened. That did not happen with manual voltage. So im just gonna keep it this way and hope it doesnt die any time soon
