Every month they patch dozens of serious vulnerabilities.  So that's nothing special.

As long as you don't invite the hacker into your house and have remote access disabled, I wouldn't worry too much.

It's worded poorly, they don't mean that someone would have to physically access the PC. They just mean that a malicious person need to already have a local access, ie. like getting a dumb user to run an .exe they got in an email.

There are a ton of new Windows/MacOSX/Linux vulnerabilities regularly. That's why you have to update your systems.
