Dirty PSU cable. Dirt or corrosion?

Hello,

 

So I am building my first PC (yay!) But when I got my power supply in (Corsair CX-M 550W 80+ Bronze) the CPU power cable had something on it, I am not sure if it is dirt or corrosion

I managed to get most of it off with a microfiber rag that's barely wet, but there's still some on there.

My main concern is that there is stuff in the inside (not in the metal but right above it) and since I wasn't able to get it all off I don't know if I should send it back or what?

Thats not a very good picture.. take a closer picture and try and get it not blurry.

This is no corrosion, looks like some kind of dirt.

Should I still be able to use it properly? Or do I need to clean it up more? (I was planning on trying to get the rest off of the outside anyway.

Clean it as much as you can, then plug it, the contacts are on the inside so now worries.

Oh, okay. So if the metal is a little dirty at top it should still be fine?

As the others mentioned, some alcohol will make quick work of that.  If you've got an old toothbrush laying around, that would make it easier to get between and inside the individual contacts.

Looks like dirt, but where did you get your PSU from?  What store?  Was it advertised as new or as a refurb?  What is sealed in shrinkwrap?
