I've havent heard anything about hacktivist groups such as anonymous, lulzsec, etc. Are they basicaly dead?

Is it not more lone people acting now? I only know of one, I can't remember his (?) name, he's the one who hacked all those printers.

I doubt that they're dead. They're probably just not drawing as much media attention as they had been.

I'm not sure, I remember all the time hearing of anonymous DDOSing websites, such as the scientology websites. But now I do not hear about them.

I do sort of remember that someone saying that those hacktivist groups are dead. But I'm sure that there are still protest and such.

I think that they're more underground than they were before, especially after some people got arrested several years back.

Yeah I could see that. Or even I heard some of them are now working for the government. Theres a show on hulu that talks about cyberwar, and some of the big hacktivist groups. That show is called Cyberwar. I cannot remember how many seasons there are, but in a couple of the first eppisodes they talked about how anonymous DDOSed websites such as the scientology websites and sent pizzas to a lot of their churches. The pizza sending thing I found was kind of funny. But it is a interesting show.

 

There was one hacker that spent time in federal prison and he had to leak all his buddies information to the feds, and he did that multiple times, I believe now he is working for the FBI, or some other federal organization. I cannot remember his name.

he didnt really hack anything, he just noticed that thousands of printers were just open to everyone and made them print shit

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

They can work for the government, for private cybersecurity companies, self-employed cybersecurity testing, etc.

There are better ways for them to earn a living and make the internet a safer place, more importantly, doing so legally.

 

The cybersecurity field is larger than it was 5-10 years ago, so there are more opportunities for people who want to pursue that sort of occupation.

Yeah, that would not be considder hacking. They were open to everyone. So yeah. I actually agree to @bananasplit_00

I think that of most lobby groups,  sure they have admiral goals and grand ideals, but most of them  would be absolutely shocked (chagrin) if they understood exactly what damage would be done should they get their way completely.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Anonymous will always be a thing.   It is a name for any people that wish to disrupt something.  To often it is thought to be a group of set criteria.  That is not anonymous. Beyond that, hackers want information and will do what it takes.

I haven't done much research this year into this exact subject. I'm basing my comment on the information I've learned through the years.

there's good money in it too. if you can find a big leak in some software from the liks of google and apple, you will be rewarded greatly if you tell them.

i get the appeal, why waste time on being a hacktivist when you can get hella rich being a security specialist?

Anonymous isn't a single hacker group. Anonymous is an ideal that has some spiteful morals & guidelines but no rules. (They dislike certain religions, they fight for an open free internet IE pro-piracy, and some other stuff.)

 

Anyone that hacks & doesn't want people to know who they are say they're anonymous.

Apparently quite a few of the groups got arrested, but most likely they are all still very active just scheming a few huge projects that will got massive coverage very soon, it really would not surprise me, i think it would be funny to see all these huge companies get screwed by like 10 guys on hp laptops spam coding for hours on end..

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

 

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
